It is crazy Nike didn’t know. As far as a Nike league, seems far fetched. What if some school changes to adidas or UA?

USC has been slimy as hell for a long time and it's almost like they wanted to destroy the Pac-12 while leaving:

    https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2022-07-29/usc-president-carol-folt-pac-12-expansion

pretty substantial reporting that shortly after that it was USC that secretly contacted the Big-10 AND Fox. The negotiations had been going on for months before the announcement of USC/UCLA leaving

to summarize, USC torpedoed an opportunity for the Pac-12 to add teams and the leverage of expanded markets. Then they left the conference. Buncha assholes, but they have always been that

    ****************************************************************************

this guy is really well connected to the Big-10. That's not to say he's an impeachable source, but he was the one that predicted USC/UCLA to the Big-10 in April of this year:

check the date of that video....it's April 4th...more than 2 months before the news broke nationally

he also had to correct a clown from the ACC who has been a serial tweeter of total bullshit:

he seems convinced that it will be Notre Dame + Oregon-Washington-Stanford joining, bringing the Big-10 to 20 teams. Probably 4 five team pods if that's the case.

the problem with remaining in what's left of the Pac-12 is that those Big-10/SEC teams could be earning 50-80M/year more. There's simply no way to compete if you're a program making 500M-800M less in a decade.

now I'm not as convinced as that guy the Ducks are headed to the Big-10. I am convinced that the Big-10 and Fox Sports see the value in having 5 teams who can fill the 10-11PM Eastern time slots on Saturday. That's been a big earner for ESPN and Fox wants to take market share from ESPN

I think an Adidas league would be great.

I mean there will eventually be two conferences. Why not a Nike vs Adidas as chief sponsors of each league? They would come with built-in advertising money to the networks that made deals with them.

Georges strategy I think is to get a financial package deal done soon, then get OR/WA/Others to, sign a Grants of Right commitment, for 4/5 years or so.

I don't think Oregon would sign it unless it's ridiculously generous.

I think they would if its was reasonable and they hadn't got any commitment or offer from the B10.

there is no way, at all, the Ducks will sign on to any GOR that goes past 2024.

San Diego and Boise St only hurt the Pac 12.

Boise will do okay in football but the rest of their sports are not Pac 12 level.

San Diego will help teams like OSU become bowl eligible.

You’re completely missing the boat if you want Oregon to stay in the pac 12. That would be the dumbest thing ever. Being kings of the g league doesn’t matter.

Aside from the money gap, I’m sure the B1G and SEC are gonna be increasing scholarship limits eventually.

Oregon has to preserve the option.

I don't know if the Big-10 will ever invite Oregon to the dance. That fairly well connected big-10 guy I linked earlier seem pretty convinced that if Notre Dame applies to join the Big-10 in the next 2 months, Oregon-Washington-Stanford will soon follow. I don't know if that's true or not but everything I've read implies that the most valuable media asset the Pac-12 is the ability to have power-5 teams fill those 'after dark' time slots. That's been a money-maker for ESPN, and I'm certain Fox would like to have the 5 most marketable teams from the Pac-12 in the Big-10 and have their own version of the 'Big-10 After Dark'. I was recently told by somebody who may or may not have his finger on the pulse of things Duck related (he has before) that Fox Sports wants a 20-team Big-10 in 2024 with 5 Pacific coast teams; but that several Big-10 schools (maybe not a majority) are more conservative. The commissioner of the Big-10 seems a lot more aggressive when it comes to expansion

he also said that some of the Big-10 schools like the idea that 2 of the 4 or 5 home games for the Pacific teams would be other Pacific teams. They are not looking forward to trips out West and 5 Pacific teams would mean the traditional Big-10 teams would fly west a lot less

in any event, the Ducks (and Washington/Stanford) can not afford to get locked into a longer term GOR. The ACC is a case study in the issues of a restrictive GOR

if the best 40-48 teams in the country are in the Big-10 & SEC, those two conferences will very likely tell the NCAA to pound sand. The NCAA is mostly neutered at this point anyway

I think the two super-conferences will eventually agree on some form of baseline stipends for athletes. Increase scholarship limits? I don't know but the NCAA could not stop them if they wanted to. I think the only rules governing the super-conferences would be federal laws like Title 9 and state laws. NIL is just going to become a series of legal slush funds

I get that Oregons best strategy may be to preserve the option of not signing a PAC GOR, but can they do that if there is a 5 year one on the table that is reasonable? What if the big10 says we wont be ready for 3/5 years? If read where they have some concerns about how fast they shop the PAC and leave it dead in the water?

“We already have significant interest from potential partners, including both incumbents and new traditional television and, most importantly, digital media partners,” Kliavkoff said Friday.

Revenue is of the utmost importance, but there’s also the matter of security. If the rest of the Pac-12 members intend to stick together, can Oregon and Washington be convinced to sign a long-term grant of rights that binds them to their fellow members? For any schools still holding out hope for a Big Ten invitation, that could be a non-starter.

Asked Friday about the grant-of-rights issue, Oregon AD Rob Mullens sounded noncommittal: “I think what you have seen in the marketplace is that a shorter TV deal is better. For us, a shorter grant of rights seems to be better for the long-term health of our program and the league.”
“Everything will have to be on the table,” Mullens said. “We want that deal to get as close to (the Big Ten and SEC) as possible. We’re not unrealistic in what to expect, but I do think there’s a creative way to close that gap.”

Oh, ain't that Sweet. Big 10 don't want to decimate little ol' Pac 12 by taking Oregon. F Off Big 10. You already did the damage with those Smogtowners. Man! i hope there's a way to keep Oregon and Washington in a rebuilt Pac 12. C'mon idea people, got to be a way.

you read that from a serial tweeter who has become infamous for pumping out hundred of tweets a day like he actually knows something. His handle is MHver and he is 117% full of shit...he makes shit up

if you assign him any credibility, he has to have impeachable inside connections to the Big-10 Commissioner, the Big-10 league office, the presidents of Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State & Wisconsin, the CEO of Fox Sports, the legal office of Fox Sports, the legal advisors for the Big-10, the president of Notre Dame, the AD of Notre Dame, the Vatican, The head office of NBC Sports, the league Office of the ACC, the university presidents of Clemson, North Carolina, Miami, and Florida State, the head office of CBS Sports, the SEC commissioner, the athletic departments of Alabama, Georgia, & Auburn, the head office of ESPN Sports, the legal department of ESPN, the commissioner of the Big-12 the athletic departments of Texas, Oklahoma, Ok State, & Baylor, the commissioner of the Pac-12, the university presidents and athletic departments of USC-UCLA-Oregon-Stanford-Washington-Cal-Utaa-Arizona, Phil Knight, Phil Knight's attorney, Phil Knight's secretary, and John Belushi

    again...it's bullshit

as far as a shorter term GOR, you have to keep in mind that the current Pac-12 media contract runs till August of 2024. A 5 year GOR (which is likely the shortest any media would agree too, and probably too short) would end in August of 2029. That's 7 years from now. Oregon won't be signing anything like that unless they know that the Big-10 (or SEC) was not an option. That's simply too long a time frame in the rapidly changing landscape

Geez....Ive never been on twitter in my life.
So any comment made by Mullens or George with regards to shorter term GOR is bs?
I know you are plugged in but there could be other possibilities too that maybe you're not aware of?

I was talking about the idea that the Big-10 could be sued by the Pac-12 which led to the notion that the Big-10 would be cautious about further raiding the Pac-12. The Big-10 didn't approach USC, it was the other way around and Fox was involved. And the Big-10 didn't approach Oregon-UofW-Stanford, it was the other way around. I mean....where exactly was it you read that the Big-10 was concerned about shopping in the Pac-12? I've been paying close attention and I know of only one 'source' for that

Mullens said nothing...yeah, he talked but he was very circumspect and completely non-committal in what he said. Kliavkoff is doing the best he can (I assume) with a bad situation. If there is even a small chance that Oregon-Washington-Stanford can join the Big-10 in 2024 after the current Pac-12 media deal expires, why would any of the schools lock themselves into a GOR that kept them off the Big-10 bus, which in turn could cost them 80M/year?

to be sure, it probably makes it impossible for Kliavkoff to negotiate a new deal if 3 Pac-12 teams are flirting with the Big-10 and 4 others are flirting with the Big-12. But, IMO, if Oregon is willing to sign a long-term GOR (and 5 years is long term right now) that's because they have been explicitly told by the Big-10 (and SEC) there's no chance they can join for the next 7-10 years

this is kind of why entire landscape of the Power-5 conferences are waiting on Notre Dame
