They are actually going to decide tomorrow if LA gets the mask mandate back. There's been a lot of backlash against it but the county may just do it anyway because they had certain metrics. The LA Health Director was found to have a big conflict of interest as many of the studies she used to justify her lockdowns/mandates were written by her daughter.

    So,

My better half got it at a conference down south (surprise, most people were not masked), which was a bummer. The weekend left me with aborted plans and boredom on my hands. I was so bored, that I spent Saturday building a lifeguard chair for a pool from scrap material we have, and we don't have a pool...

No idea what we will do with it now, it is a quick project from bits and bobs that lie around, so it's not pretty. But, I had fun building it and I can rule over my messy back yard like a boss now, so that's something...

Well, if you have a young one, it will make an awesome high chair.
If you don't, invite someone with one over and put that in the dining room, and pretend like you think it is a perfectly normal high chair and that they are acting all weird about using it.

My kids are at the age where they roll their eyes at stuff I do. I doubt they will want to sit in it.

I suspect that next time I am bored I will put some kind of a retractable umbrella and drinks holder on it for sunny days (which is like, almost every day in San Diego), but who knows - when I am bored enough, stupid things happen. There is something freeing about building stuff no-one needs just because you can.

It has workbench casters on it since it is so heavy, I can just push it down the street and hope it makes it all the way to Portland.

(BTW, the workbench casters are great, it sits on it's own legs normally for maximum stability, but you can push the casters to roll it easily. Just for that, it's probably worth $6).

I can anyway, we live on a hill and both us and our neighbors have large yards that go down the hill.

Damn dude. Nice craftsmanship. I bet you could sell enough of those to afford a pool.

Thanks, but it is actually a DIY level craftmanship, you can see that the mortises are kind of wonky, but I did it all outside with just a miter saw, drill/driver and a couple of chisels - as I was too lazy to move the cars from the garage and try to work using a proper workbench and the table-saw. Add the fact that it's all construction level lumber that I did not bother to mill to a uniform thickness - and you can't really expect it to look like a proper piece of furniture. It's good enough for what it is and I am sure we will have some fun with it. I built the deck dining table and bench with my young kid several years ago and we took our time, so it is still in use. I suspect this will be around for a while as a curio or a way for me to experiment with nonsense. I do need to try and restore the old patio we have on the side of the house - so I might use it as a more stable ladder when I do that.

Unfortunately I have Covid now. Been sick all week. Thought I would avoid it, but no dice.

Dammit, take care of yourself. If you feel up to it go outside and get a little sun, the natural vitamin D is supposed to help with covid.

There are a couple other viruses going around. Went to the Rite Aid and Walgreen's in McMinnville..... the entire cold medication aisle was sold out at both places. It was crazy. The rest of the stores were otherwise fully stocked as normal. The pharmacists said that it's been crazy and something has clearly been going around. Wife, myself, the workplace, and several other people I know have been really sick, but everyone has been negative for COVID. Wife finally went to the doctor office, took a test there, negative, and the doctor said something nasty was going around.
