Kind of disagree about it being a good article. In hindsight, winners are winners and losers are losers. Anyone can see that.

The article uses some nice metaphors and word play. It has whimsy. It's also flawed.

There isn't always a strong candidate to run. Even the Republicans have run into this problem. Mitt Romney, John McCain, Bob Dole, Goldwater...

Can't wait for someone to run for president as a republican and have their fetus be their running mate.

    The problem….
    Scratch that.

One of the many problems with all political parties is they serve as puppets to their largest donators, which is typically large corporate America.

Get the money out of politics with some campaign finance overhaul and i bet all parties will see better, well intentioned candidates, not just out to fill their piggy bank.

Freedom dollars to donate to whatever political cause they want. Give every American freedom dollars and make the amount of freedom dollars donated equivalent to the amount donated by business and the wealthy.

Then politicians will be far more concerned about working for the people.

Sometimes a qualified candidate is simply wrong person for the time, I think Humphrey fits that.

The problem with the democratic party is that for one...they have no equal competition for the vote other than the GOP...they don't even have to debate the libertarian, independent, green party etc..candidates and they need term limits....neither party is attracting talent to the job. We need campaign finance reform and term limits..both parties are experienced at assuring the other party fails during office whether it hurts americans or not. It's become who can make the other party look worse, not what can we do for our country.

The issue is that democrats run weak candidates and democrats see it and wish for better and make it known. Republicans can trot out the corpse of a former NFL running back or a garbage bag woman from Georgia and are like yep that’s my girl.

As Bill Clinton said “Democrats want to fall in love, Republicans fall in line.”

He also said, "When people think, Democrats win".

He's got a good point. Unfortunately, that's why Republicans do everything possible to dumb down the population.

For all his warts at least ABM continues to show up and take the criticism. The other righties seem to be either suspended or in hiding.

I think the majority got suspended for personal insults, but I'm sure there's some around that are more "traditional" republican.

Some got banned. Some have left or faded to the background because they are no longer the majority voice in the OT section as they were some years ago.

He only won the nomination because Gary Hart who was the presumptive nominee, had a scandal involving an affair come to light.
