And cut their pay by 30% to keep them local!

It sucks that that happens but travel and jetlag and exposure to sickness are also factors...it happened to me in the school system...I had a part time side job for over 10 years that I was well paid for and that job got outsourced to save money....sucked for me too but I understand why they do it. HCP will always have work in his field...and working from home can be looked at as a perk if you've traveled half a season on the road away from family. There are two ways to look at it. I'll bet most of those folks spend that 30% in cities on the road that would put it in the bank if they worked at home more often than not. I'm just trying to see why they would make this move and I'm not sure if they're investing in higher tech media equipment and are ahead of the curve or if they're just not putting value on the logistics of travel and expenses for Casey or HCP with the team. Maybe it's a really bad move... I sure don't know enough about it.

It's a terrible look. And cutting the pay of your employees is a worse look. It makes us look cheap, like we don't care about the fans or our employees. We signed a horrible deal with a horrible media company, and now we can't afford to pay our crew. But oh yeah, our owner is worth $20 billion!

It's just a bad look all around.

I'm wondering how the consolidation of regional sports nets have had on production costs. I know Sinclair has lost $9+ billion after purchasing the Fox Sports Nets and then covid hit. Unless their streaming offering picks up speed they're going to cut more and maybe even drop some regional nets. I'm guessing Root is in the same boat. Also, I'm wondering the cost difference between fielding your own crew and leasing the local market talent already in an opponent's building... I'm guessing the cost is large enough to make a difference over 41 games. When I see companies pinch the penny like this, it's usually followed by an imminent sale.

I wouldn't be surprised if more teams (mainly small market) follow suit unfortunately.

If they did that would be less of a blow. But it makes Portland look bad right now.

Agreed. IF they also had said that they had fixed the streaming issues it would be a much easier pill to swallow. But you throw in the $ loss people are taking, PLUS the Root tv issue, PLUS not having a G-league team PLUS the whole contract with the city/lease issue being up in the air...and you know, anyone with an ounce of business sense would see that maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to do.

Or good if it actually works well. They might end up looking like front runners on this?
Technology is improving and the system has been in place for two years now.

Simplest way to boost your profit margin (in the short term) and profitability is quite important when negotiating a sale.

It's starting to get to that territory where I can't deliniate from fake or real. I could see this business.... I mean, team, doing this.

    Is that a joke?

Jesus fucking Christ if true. Is someone trying to make Portland a place no player wants to go? Already suffering that with the A's.

It's a joke. The problem is that we don't immediately know that.

Jody needs to sell to a decent owner ASAP if she cares about her brother's legacy in the NBA at all.

It doesn't seem like Jody has any intent to sell. Maybe she would change her mind when she sees the damage it is doing to her reputation? In which case I'll contribute...

I have have no proof of anything but I was wondering if maybe they are needing to cut costs because Jody is facing another lawsuit for being a sexual predator? Anyone have further details about her first run in with abusing people? Did it seem like more of a one off thing or more of a tip of the iceberg incident that deserves more public scrutiny?

I don't think a proven predator should just get the benefit of the doubt like that. There has to be a reason we need to cut costs and it appears to be a reason worth keeping secret. So I believe it is fair to speculate given her history of abuse leading to high payouts.

Sorry. I know I went a bit over the top. I just find it morally wrong that Jody still owns the team despite being a known abuser of her wealth and power. It is wrong that she holds onto the team and puts all the fans in a moral position of having to financially support her in order to support the team we have followed for decades.
