Southern California...home to Reagan and Nixon...you'll find a big GOP presence south of Santa Barbara....polls....polls said Hillary would win. Those latinos are not picking lettuce either...they are renting properties and looking for that golf club membership. You never catch onto the context of these things....not surprised. The labor force I mentioned doesn't get to vote or fill out polls.

No..you don't get it....you probably don't get the I'm not a democrat either....the labor force was from Mexico and Central America..they don't fill out polls or register to vote....California is something like 80 percent Latino and predominantly a blue state by a large margin so your little LAtimes poll is meaningless. It was policy and the fucking wall that drove out our work force from the farms and dairies over the rapist fear tactic Trump spouted. Every country uses migrant labor for agriculture....which is the point this conversation started with. My oldest son is half latino and republican in California...I know a bit about the place...have lots of family there. Also have worked there ...lot of retired military in Southern Cal from NTC in San Diego to Camp Pendelton in Oceanside to Naval Air station in Miramar. Many of those folks come from places like Tennessee, Alabama, etc.....that's why SoCal is the most conservative part of the state.
Washington State relies on a lot of Caribbean fruit pickers..(large hands are a huge plus picking fruit) ..as a child in Iowa Jamaicans came through every season for the sugar beet harvest....farmers can't turn a profit paying union scale wages for people to weed or harvest thousands of acres of crops...same in California....also virtually no other American citizens seek work in the fields. Same in many, many countries...none of my grandkids want to sweat in the fields in the summer working crops...nor do I blame them. We had neighbors who were happy to do these jobs and Trump chased them out.
Sure we can but it requires restructuring agriculture from large farms to small farms...something that will not produce the surplus that turns a profit by export. I can survive right now without grocery stores. I produce more than I need and provide for my son's family as well. Most people do not have a garden period. I'd guess you can't feed yourself from your home without money to buy food. I can. Choices. Wineries seldom grow their own grapes...they subcontract for grapes.
