Are you in the top 0.1% of your skill in the world?

Do literally thousands of people want to watch you do your job?

Do the best at your job compete against other countries of the world every 2 years?

If yes to all of that then I definitely support you making vastly more.

Me too. Supply and demand. If someone wants to make more, then it needs to be in more demand and the money will come.

Pro Basketball is in demand. Easily in demand enough that we could pay every professional basketball player in the country $1 million per year without negatively impacting a single person's lifestyle.

Shouldn't salaries and endorsement contracts cover whatever demand there is?

I'm not sure what you mean by "cover"?

Pro basketball in the US is a roughly $10 billion business (not including endorsements) and there are only 600 top level basketball players in the US.

That's enough to pay each player an average salary of $8 million per year while allowing owners half of the profits...

I'm not suggesting every player make that much. Just a minimum salary of $1 million would be great.

Men's Pro Basketball is a $10 billion business.

Women's Pro Basketball loses millions every season and requires subsidies.

Im sorry. I miss read an earlier post. I thought you wanted the public to subsidize. The nba can do whatever they want, but they players have to agree to it. Id say thats a debate between the nba players and owners and the wnba.

The NBA lost money for years.
Half of NBA teams regularly lose money before subsidies.

And the NBA has never had a dominant incumbent to compete with.

Phat you think WNBA players should all make $1m? Is that because it’s affiliated with the NBA? This might cause an uptick in trans players in the WNBA relax everyone I’m kidding although I can post up and draw fouls if needed.

I used to watch the WNBA alot more when we had the Fire. If they were still around I would watch as much. I still watch some, but it's not the same without a team.

The NBA was the dominant incumbent.

Yeah, I think women add a lot to the sport. They are more fundamental players. Better shooters. Fostering that experience and expertise can only help USA Basketball as a whole.

Yeah this is all fine and good but you can't get me to sit through a WNBA game. It's just not something I'm willing to watch all the time.

Nobody forces anybody to watch sports. Some people watch for the athletic freaks, some people watch for the fundamental skill.

NBA teams who play a style closer to what the women play are typically some of the more popular and exciting teams. Ball movement, player movement, touch.

It's all good for the game.

    I don't know?
Seems to me when i watch games live in the arena the things that get the crowd going are not ball movement and player movement or touch.
The crowd likes high flying, dominant action that is also set up by scoring at an elite level. Thunderous Blocks and actual physical action that i can't do just as well as the player I'm watching. This to me is why Women's team sports on a whole are a tough sell.

All of that stuff is set up by fundamental basketball. Or it doesn't win.

And if it doesn't win the thunderous blocks get old and forgotten pretty quickly.

The world is catching up to us in basketball, and many countries have passed us fundamentally.

Nobody is suggesting WNBA playera make as much as NBA players. Just that they make more here than overseas.

I do too. I think they are talented athletes. The problem is sports business is about entertainment value. A certain amount of people/population thinks the WNBA is entertaining and that is reflected in their pay. It’s the most simple, straight forward situation.

Exactly. To many, the WNBA simply is not entertaining but there is a block that find it so. That reflects what they will be paid.
Doesn't get any more straightforward than that.
