Only if the owner is a PETA member - otherwise, it all goes to enriching those that buy the dog food, pick up the poop, make sure you've been (especially you) neutered and so forth.

    Uh, beg to differ.

Back in the real old days (talking old-west), kids 14 and older were essentially considered adults and expected to work and act as such. Even young kids spent a lot of time working on the farm and had chores.

Letting kids be kids can also lead to less responsible adults as they haven't learned many of the realities of life.

I don't know if any of you know who JR Simplot was but he started the Simplot company when he left home at 14 (in the 1920s) to find his own way and ended up starting his own company and became a billionaire. That company (still private) now has 14,000 or so employees mostly in US & Australia but also in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, India, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and other places across the globe.

You can read a bit about JR Simplot on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._Simplot

Sheltering kids from responsibility and the realities of life is a failure to teach and to train.

    /end rant

Working on a farm, building responsibilities, a skill and working the growing muscles is not the same as distracting an education to focus on how many people on social media like you.
Im all for educating children. This isnt education though.
    Its a distraction from.

I think we agree on a lot of the issues teens are facing today; we just disagree on what is good or bad for them.

It appears you believe why teens are impressionable we should exclude them from facing real world situation such as adversity, work ethic, failure, etc. to make sure they are not let down. Problem with that theory is when they go out on their own as an adult, they are totally unequiped to handle these exact situations. I believe exposing them to difficult situations in a controlled environment while still under adult supervision is the best thing for them, not the worst.

Regardless, the OSAA has made their decision.

    Not at all.

I think work ethic has derailed and needs to be back to a priority in teaching youth about expectations.
This, to me, does nothing but distract against it.
This will teach them nothing about real world skills needed to survive. Just another tech simulate that deters future generations from actually learning about a work ethic, physical labor, etc.

I fail to see how this will do anything but further distract youth from what really matters in life. Image is not and should not be a priority in teaching skills and work ethics.

You are thinking about this all wrong.

If they are getting paid for their name/image/likeness, then they should pay you for the having it on your lawn.

Think of it as modern day payola - they build their marketability/visibility and you get paid for helping them build it. :)

I care nothing about my lawn( its still brown and dead right now).
I do however care about the long term work ethic and skill set our youth seems to be losing. more kids know how to create an image than know how to replace a toilet or change a tire or build a fire.

Seriously concerning to me. Has nothing to do with a selfish lawn….

I guess I'm just struggling to see how giving kids the monetary rights to their name, image and likeness affects learning how to change a toilet.

Change a toilet for a kid and they can shit for a day. Teach a kid how to change a toilet and they can shit for life!

Time spent during the day. Ive said it before. Working on an image detracts from a quality education of actual things that impact life. We already struggle in the work force with unskilled youth labor. To me, this will just compound that.

I guess i fail to see especially, in todays economy, how this isn't a concern.

    pretty much.
But hey. As long as i have an image online people are liking, I can find someone to do everything i never learned to do myself. Even the basics.
Oh but wait. Now, that someone is too busy to do the work i need done because.. they are too busy marketing their image online…

What do you mean by working on an image? This allows an athlete to get paid and not lose college eligibility in their sport.
I think it's worse to "train youth for the workforce" to be a cog in a machine than it is allowing a small number of youth to profit from who they are.

You obviously care and you have a ton of great firsthand life experience, it might be something you should look into volunteering with.

they need to creaTe the image to gain the fan base to support the payment. The great athletes have and will continue to get paid regardless. this just sets up a bunch of youth to put time and effort into an image to try to get paid to, in the end, not get paid.
