I think dame will age like kobe bryant. He'll soon be a major liability. Since this team is not close to a contender, i think its time to look to the future.

Yep. Average life expectancy in the US is just about 79 years old. Phil is not the answer but if he buys it his children might be?

It's certainly possible. Ray Allen on an expiring contract was worth the 5th pick. Also we don't know exactly where picks will end up often when the trade happens. Thats why unprotected picks many years out and swaps are worth a ton. The Pelicans got both of those from the Lakers for Davis and Bucks for Holliday, Utah for Gobert, Rockets for Harden, Clippers for George, etc.

Yeah they might only be worth middle of the first round picks; but they also might be worth much more. Thats how the Celtics got Tatum and Brown; building a contender, by parting ways with aging superstars in trades many years prior.

Or even look at the Pelicans; nobody though the Lakers pick with a prime Davis and LeBron would be #8th. The even more valuable picks are still waiting to convey.

With a healthy Dame, any team he's on thats halfway decent, has a chance to shock the world!

the main thing about your argument....thankfully...is that it shitcans the absolutely phony BS argument about "trade Dame to a contender so he can get a ring"

to even have a chance at any kind of lottery pick over the next 3-4 years, Dame would have to be traded to a mediocre team. A non-contender....a team like Portland

in other words, not only trade Dame, but shit on him at the same time

So you're saying being on a non-contender is shitting on him?

good example...the Knicks team that was 37-45 last season

I really doubt they'd give up a lot for Dame anyway after signing Brunson

Grant is nice but Dame still can’t do it alone. At some point we’re going to have to stop waiting for all of these young players to develop and find another star by trade.

I'm saying if he doesn't ask for a trade, turning around and trading him to a non-contender is shitting on him.

Its possible that Simons and/or Shaedon could be the compliment he needs, or as you say a trade for another star with assets we have.

Well, yes. The question isn't limited to who the best player is right now. It includes trade value. It includes financial considerations. If the Dame/Simons backcourt isn't better than the Dame/CJ pairing, that question may become pressing in short order.

Haven’t read the whole thread, can’t be bothered. After years of fans tearing their hair out over the obviously unworkable backcourt pairing of Dame and CJ, management finally trades CJ only to re-up with yet another defensively bellow average backcourt pairing. Simons as a microwave off the bench? Nope, more of the same please! I’m completely disengaged, more than any other season in memory, and will be whilst this continues. I’ll still watch games, but I find it hard to care about the results. With all that said, I’d love nothing more than to be proven wrong.

I'm kind of confused why some think Dame/Ant is better or even as good as Dame/CJ? It isn't and it won't be.

it might be better, it might not. It might be different, it may not.

but hopefully, Cronin won't be so idiotically welded to Ant like Olshey was to CJ

Is O.G. Anunoby a big enough star or is he more on Jerami Grants level? Could be on the Blazers radar again this season.
