Here's the deal, which everyone knows is the deal:
We are not "the best team" at all. However, it's absolutely amazing that we have 3 narrow wins while we work on our many flaws. Contrast this to the up and coming Kings who are 0-3 on 3 narrow losses while they are working on their many flaws.

Don't forget: according to https://en.hispanosnba.com/teams/comparison we are the 7th youngest team in the NBA.

Tendex is a very old stat (it predates PER, even) but I take this as a very bad sign. Basically, I think we're a lot worse than our record, and it's going to catch up with us soon:

That doesn't measure heart and that's what this team has. Throw that shit out the door.

Yes, I think we can all agree with that. I think the goal is to keep our heads above water for the first 20 games. There will be a stretch where we will lose a lot. So if we can steal some games early it will help until we get better. And I think we will get better. I think we will be in a lot of games because of our defense. And if the game is close until "Dame Time", then there is always a chance.

I think people are seriously sleeping on this team. I always had them in the top 5 of the west. The difference is, they haven't even settled in yet. This is a brand new team which means there is plenty of room to grow and get better.

TENDEX is primarily a player rating system (not team) based on box scores so it’s going to have difficulty measuring defense. At the team level, point differential is a much better metric.

With such a tiny sample we could definitely be a lot worse. For three games I’ll take the eyeball test. That makes me optimistic because as I see it we have lots of room for improvement.

Golden State is the only team that matters to me in the Western Conference. I don't trust the other teams to be as good as whatever numbers say they are. Phoenix last season is Exhibit A.

The Trail Blazers haven't even played that well yet. Lots of sloppy turnovers and poorer than expected shooting by players like Simons.

At some point, Shaedon Sharpe will be able to make that move that Jerami Grant did last night and dribble down the baseline and finish in traffic. When that happens, we are one notch better as a team.

Yeah those are the main things I had in mind. Also we got GP2 in the back pocket.

    Four games, four wins.

Winning and losing is about more than thoughts, of course. But attitude is a factor. A good team has a strut. A bad start, missed defensive assignment, they shrug it off, figure they will make up for it. A bad team puts their collective heads down and starts thinking another loss.
The more the Blazers win, the more they cultivate a winning attitude.
