I mean, like, backyard pickup, local organized, church league, or such? If so, what's your best position, and are you decent/good? BB style-wise, which Blazer might you most aligned with - past or present?
Yep. I sometimes play organized at the gym. Haven't been in awhile. Play pick up games at the nearby court. During the summer I meet up with peeps on here and play. Guard. I can guard bigger people though. Im not as good as I used to be, but I can still shoot the three pretty well. More so when someone is in my face.
I used to play church league. Was a guard, Pretty good assist guy. Decent shot. But, again, pretty good assist guy. One thing I learned about church league: Brutal. These guys play for keeps.
I grew up playing street ball. No fouls. Took some big hits. Played with broken fingers and toes and sprains and all sorts of injuries.
Man, that's rough. LOL I played a lot of 3-on-3 halfcourt. Had to always take it beyond the halfcourt line on change of possession. That's a pretty fun game right there. Used to play pickup games at Greenway Park (SW Greenway near Hall Blvd.) in Tigard. Those were some fantastic times!
About Eric being a closeted hooper? Funny. I think the humor is in the fact Eric himself came in here and said he had sex, or “hooped” with an NBA player. Eric is very open about his sexuality, which is fantastic. As for hooping, I am in a local 50 and older league here. Also an adult hockey league
I will keep to myself all the double-entendres about "adult hockey" that came flooding to my mind, but rest assured that they are numerous.
Haven't played in awhile but when I did it was an undersized post, think a Charles Barkley type with .000001% of the athleticism of the Round Mound. Not much of an outside shot but ok from midrange and around the basket on the roll after setting a mean pick and loved to make the extra pass out of the PnR for an easier shot. Should also mention I played offensive line and most of my basketball game resembled that more than real skill. Haven't played in probably 5-6 years (working 70 hours a week will do that) but would love to get back at it, even in my early 40's.
Much of this is me, but I'm less an undersized post so much as a typical unathletic white stiff (people called me "Dudley" in high school for obvious reasons). Love to defend (post and perimeter), rebound, block shots, and I have decent court vision for a big guy, but I am pretty inept offensively.
I coach my kids and sometimes get roped into playing. Sometimes play with the guys at Oregon City Church of the Nazarene Saturday mornings. I'm not terrible if I play regularly, but I don't know how to take it easy (and I'm over 300lbs). So if I play regularly for a week or more (enough time to get more competitive and forget to take it easy) I just wind up with an injury. And now I take forever to heal. So I try to avoid live action unless I happen to be there and a sub is needed. If anybody is looking for pickup games on Saturdays there is usually a good group of guys (sometimes gals as well) playing at Oregon City Church of the Nazarene Saturday mornings at 10am.
