The assists are a little concerning but I just don't think he has the experience yet that enables him to think about scoring and/or assists at the same time. I also think he does not lack a motor, just doesn't have the confidence to know when he should cut or look for lobs. He might also be the kind of kid who doesn't think he should hog the spotlight; so he needs to develop a more assertive attitude.

lol...not impressed, at all, with that 'analysis' and lack of context

Portland really doesn't run plays for Sharpe; that means he's unlikely to receive the ball is good position to assist another player. I'd agree he has tunnel-vision but the reasons for that could be, probably are, because he's a dozen+ games into his post-high-school career

the assist/100-possession stat is per 100 team possessions, not per 100 player possessions. And the author is inaccurate; Shape's mark is 1.2 not 0.9. Likely meaning that his ast/100 rate increased by 33% because in one game, he had 2 assists. Meaning that for Sharpe, that's still a completely meaningless stat when one assist can move the mark by 33%

look at the player-touches ranking for the rotational Blazers:

    Damian Lillard 85.5
    Anfernee Simons 74.2
    Jusuf Nurkic 54.6
    Justise Winslow 52.1
    Jerami Grant 51.8
    Josh Hart 51.2
    Keon Johnson 30.7
    Drew Eubanks 22.6
    Shaedon Sharpe 21.2
    Nassir Little 19.2

in order to generate assists, or more importantly have an impact, a player needs opportunities. And Sharpe's opportunities have been very limited at this point in time. He's down in the range of the low-involvement trio; and Eubanks is in his 5th season and 2nd for Chauncey, while Little is in his 4th season. Eubanks has played 2700 minutes over 190 games; Little has played 2600 minutes over 160 games. Sharpe has played 340 minutes in 16 games

in other words, I'm saying that it isn't "tunnel-vision" limiting Sharpe as that author claims, it's inexperience and opportunity. And that using assists/100-possession to make the argument is an idiot use of stats-without-context

Better analysis in a few minutes of research than a "expert."

I'm not at all worried about Sharpe. He's 19. He's learning. He has already exceeded my expectations for this season. The biggest concern was that he wouldn't translate to the NBA because he hadn't played in a year, and those concerns have been flatly answered. Give the kid some time to learn the game. Right now he's just getting by on raw talent. Give him a year in our system. It took Simons YEARS to actually look comfortable on the court. How long did he just sit in the corner and wait for a three and that was it?

Yeah, games like last night are to be expected. We knew he would be up and down this season. He just needs experience.
Just not sold that he needs to start just yet.

The question to me is whether starting him is harmful. I think getting reps is only going to help him adjust to the speed of the game, but will nights like last night hurt his confidence? Is he a rookie QB that you want to bring along slowly so he doesn't take a bunch of sacks?

    kindness doesnt equate intelligence.

im generous with my things and believe myself to be a very kind, giving person. Im also as dumb as a box of rocks.
So….one does not constitute the other.

So is he still going to finish as our "second best player on the team"? God I wish I could remember who said that.

I think for many young players that is a legit concern. I have wondered about it for SS as well, which is why I have been
happy with how Chauncey has used him so far. Ease him into it.

On a side note, was he playing more SG last night as opposed to SF? Hard to say since Hart is always in motion, but I can't help but wonder if being in the corner and working the baseline is a bit easier for him than being out on top.

I think what we have been doing with him is the right way to develop him, personally. With as young and inexperienced as he is. I think allowing him to get looks within the flow, not forcing too much, not forcing him as the starter, but letting him start when available. And occasionally having him covering the teams best player.

Which is exactly why you keep the expectations down a bit…. Gonna be up and down for a couple years. People shouldn’t send him to the HOF after 3 weeks of the season FAMS

Realistic fans most certainly expect Sharpe to have his ups and downs on the way to the Hall of Fame.
And since you can't be on the ballot for the HOF until you're retired for 4 years it's going to be really hard to send him there now.

I think it’s possible, but right now Grant is clearly our second best player. Nurk and Simons are also currently light years ahead of Sharpe and even Winslow and Hart are making more of an impact. That said, Sharpe’s upside is limitless and so your claim while wild, is at least within the realm of possibility.
