    The funny thing is, Portland had two reputations for a long time. One the one hand, Portland was lily white, quirky and forward thinking (I'm talking relatively recently, not like 50+ years ago when it was a polluting cess pool). On the other hand, Portland was "little Beruit" but hidden.

    Now the part that was hidden is less hidden, and the half that never wanted to admit it was there, is pissed and over-reacting.

    Because police are refusing to do their jobs. I posted about this in another post. Crime and violent crime are way up, prosecution rates are average to above average (the trouble with prosecuting higher rates is mostly lack of public defenders), yet arrests are way down.

    The only logical cause is police giving a big F-You to the communities who pay them.

    Isn't the mayor the head of police? Seems that there needs to be anew system with regard to managing not only a city but law enforcement.

    Portland Police and their union just need to be gotten rid of. It's beyond repair.
