Id rather have the freedom to travel how I want and the option to pay a toll, Im not big on herding the mass to take mass transit, not against mass transit as such, just forcing people to take it and not offer options.
Don't like the idea that toll is the answer, personally I think a sales tax would go along way in this State if they would limit or cut all together State Income tax.

Ive traveled most states and Im not proud that Oregon has some of the worst roads of any State Ive been.
    Its always been this way.

If they're going to limit or cut the income tax how would a sales tax help?

How does requiring voter approval before tolling existing roads herd anybody to transit?

Really?? In my travels I have always been grateful to be back on Oregon roads. There might be (many?) better roads in states west of the Mississippi River but east of the Mississippi the roads suck a major hoagie. I cannot believe the trucking industry puts up with it. In Ohio I finally started taking secondary roads because the interstate was beating the shit out of my car. In Pennsylvania we got slowed to a crawl because of "road work" at the state border............a crew of guys with wheelbarrows full of asphalt, filling small chuckholes by hand, while the car swallowing chuckholes got ignored. What's probably closer to the truth is every state's roads suck because the politicians are either grifting or they have vanity projects they'd rather fund. Probably a little bit of both.......

Is there going to be a voter approval? Hope so.
With a sales tax instead of State Income tax seems you could generate revenue from out of state visitors. Im not in fav or of a Federal GST as Canada does.

Maybe Ive missed some terrible road in the mid west States. I used to drive from Milwaukee, Chicago, Indy, Dayton down to Louisville and was impressed with the freeways, not so much traffic in certain areas but the conditions. Also, I think our neighbors to the north have very nice Interstate freeways. I haven't done much long distant traveling of late things could have changed big time.

If it's popular enough it'll be approved. But I seriously doubt it would be.

I am in favor of voters approving all new regressive taxes. And then requiring a 5 year sunset on that new tax if voters don't support it again.
