he's in Detroit filling up his stat sheets with DNP's, reportedly because of knee issues. Only 62 minute in 6 games this year so far

he wouldn't be cheap because he has a 9.2M salary

Then maybe just Simons needs to go. I saw him play really hard on defense for the first five minute, but not much after that.

And that $9.2M salary would be very difficult for Portland to trade for.

Could trade Hart.... but why would Portland do that? (unless other assets come back)
Could trade GPII.... but that would push Portland into the Lux Tax, costing the Blazers to miss out on a $12M distribution from other Lux Tax teams
Could trade Little + Winslow.... but again that would push Portland into the Lux Tax.

Noel at ~4 mil is a good target. Noel at 9 mil is not. I think that's a negative contract and would have to have assets attached to take on.

Payton + Brown works from Portland's end, and keeps them under the tax. But Detroit appears to have 15 players under contract so it wouldn't work from their end

Javale McGee wouldn't be a terrible target as a backup rim protector (if it's determined we need one). He's fallen out of favor in Dallas, but he's still efficient in the few minutes he plays.

Perhaps but Eubanks is more often playing against the second string.

maybe...probably?....but it does seem that C rotations are the least predictable of any position; probably because of foul situations

If we were going to trade GPII, I’d rather do a 3-way deal where we see how much GSW really wants him back and get the whatever young guys we can and send them to DET and get either Stewart or Bey back, preferably Bey.

I can’t think of any Villanova guys that got drafted who aren’t at least solid role players.

Everyone loves Bey. Including Detroit. Did I miss something? Are they shopping him? I find that hard to believe. If they are then they will want a very good piece back at the same position as Bey. We are wasting our time discussing him in trades IMO

It's possible it came from something like this coming out. He's had an up and down year, and will be up for extension, I believe, after the season. Could be they look to get something for him before having to pay him.

My target since this summer has been Zach Collins.

Think he's the perfect backup big for Nurk, and fills a need for our second unit.

Eubanks is nice. But he's a sieve defensively. Constantly misses rotations and is no where near the kinda impactful bigs that Nurk/Collins are on both ends. Good energy guy for ~10 mpg, but would get played off the floor in the playoffs.

We're already in two first-round picks for him, why not throw a couple more at him?

I said it... where did I say that you said it?

My post was a shot at our previous GM, not you.

    I'm sorry.

To be fair: Zach Collins is no longer here as well.

See, you'd always get caught up in trying to pigeon-hole my arguments into an either/or situation or into a direct correlation, stripping away context until it was something simpler when defense is far from simple.

My criticism of Stotts was never outcome oriented, it was process-oriented. The process has a direct effect on the outcome, but it's not the only variable. However, when the outcome is terrible, you should be doing whatever you can do to possibly improve the process, and he didn't. That was my criticism.

For you to sit here thinking my criticism of Stotts would change because of a later outcome completely misses the point.

Anyway, I'll play along - The results actually have improved. Blazers were a bottom 28th-30th ranked defense and now, without their best defender, are 21st in aDRTG. Not great, but an improvement, and much more reasonable for a young head coach compared to someone with over a decade's experience.

    Blazers defensive rating:

    in October: 109.6 (#9)
    in November: 115.2 (#25)
    In December: 112.9 (#17)

November was a rough month, which makes sense as it was the toughest part of the schedule. We went 6-10.
