Kind of weird for a shy guy to be a color commentator for the Rockets.

That struck me odd too. However, Johnny Carson was known to be incredibly shy and introverted, yet hosted the Tonight Show.

And literally, all it would take is a 15 second video recorded on his phone saying "hey Dame, congrats for taking my record. I held it for 27 years, now its yours. "

Even that would be far more than enough to placate fans. It's not like fans are asking Drexler to be an ambassador or work for the team or gallivant around town with a big logo on his shirt. He didn't show up for the 50th "all decade" teams either. His track record of not making an effort is known.

I know the way things ended wasn't pleasant, but it's almost been 30 years.

We don't play til Friday now? Hopefully by then Billups can get this team back on track, offensively and defensively.

in a contrast, dame was asked yesterday if he was gonna stick around the team after retiring, his response made it even more evident how different he is from drexler. Time stamp ~8:05 mark

Probably need more than 3 days off for that. I'm more hoping that Gary Payton actually plays (I almost typed that with a straight face).

Clyde said that too when he was still playing. He usually stayed in town during much of the off-season....golfing.
I guarantee that if Dame is ever traded to say a CA team, he will slowly disappear in Portland. Now if he retires a Blazer then yes I would imagine he sticks around. But things can change in a hurry.

So i kept listening. How many times did Dame say "When Nurk's mind is right he is really good". That to me tells me that what i am seeing is exactly what is happening.
All of the other stuff aside. Nurk needs to be engaged. When he isn't he isn't good. It's just obvious.

Then you keep getting excited he’s shooting them. I’ll continue to cringe.

He was REALLY bad on air. I don’t think he has been their color commentator for years though.

He's making them. That alone is a positive. If they really start to guard him out there it will make the entire offense look different.
I for one want him shooting those shots if he continues to make them at a 46% rate. So far this year he has shot 56 of them which happens to be the total he shot in last years short season. Last year he was shooting about 27% so yeah, Cringeworthy for sure. This year? Not so much.

I’m cool if he doesn’t take another one. He needs to worry about finishing at the rim. Nothing worse than somebody who can’t shoot from outside all of a sudden thinks he can. Last thing I want to see is this dude launching from outside in a tight game down the stretch.

But isn’t scoring more points a good thing when done efficiently? I’m confused. Getting triple doubles is good but hitting threes is bad?

I tend to agree about taking them in a tight game in crunch time when he is tired. I have flashbacks to Aminu. (despite Aminu making a couple in crunch time)

But I have to admit, Nurk's form on his 3s is pretty effortless. If he can improve his 3 pt shooting late in his career as Brook Lopez has, or like Mark Gasol did back in the day.....I can live with it. Centers tend to only take them when they are wide open and for obvious reasons, they usually are out there. That does not mean I want him to live out there, but 3 per game is fine.

If he's hitting over a third of them I just want him to take them when his defender leaves him wide open during those high pick and rolls. It will really open up the paint for all of our guys that can slash really well and that's all of our guys besides Nurk himself. Don't get me wrong I want Nurk living in the paint and only taking vacations to the perimeter but teams having to respect Nurk from three adds a wrinkle to our offense that is potentially transformative.
