One of our great songwriters and harmony singers from the Byrds to Crosby Stills and Nash David was called the original hippy angel by Joni Mitchell. I have most of his recordings and covered several of his songs ..my favorite was Traction in the Rain. The Lea Shore...Guinivere...Wooden Ships...Amost cut my hair. RIP to a leegend...his last live show with the Lighthouse band and his granddaughter was amazing. David was 81....what a life!

His music allowed him to live longer than many thought he would.

My son installed the security system in his house and said he was a cranky old bastard during the whole job....he burned a lot of bridges at the end of his journey but left some great music and discovered Joni Mitchell which was like discovering water on Mars to me.

Yes, he was terrifically talented. I think C,S,N, and Y were better than C,S, and N though. I don't think he got along with Neil.

“It is with a deep and profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed,” Nash wrote. “I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years.

“David was fearless in life and in music,” Nash continued. “He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world.”

It was a game changer for how folk rock records were made...that album is perfect like Joni Mitchell's Blue or the Beatle's Revolver, there's not a clinker on the record. /Stephen Stills is all over that record...he is just a great arranger and musician.

A friend of mine is a retired airline pilot. He posted this remembrance of David Crosby:

“Back in the early eighties, I was a flight engineer (number 3 of three pilots) with Continental Airlines. One morning, prior to passenger boarding, we were informed that the musical group Crosby, Stills and Nash would be pre-boarded in first class and that they would be bringing on board a very large bass violin for which they had purchased an extra first class seat. David Crosby carried on the bass, and I helped him secure it in the seat next to him using the seat belt, some rope and a little ingenuity. Crosby sat next to the bass, while Stills and Nash sat in the same row on the other side of the isle. While I was finishing up, the flight attendant asked the group if they would like a pre-departure drink. Crosby replied: "Yes, I would like a double scotch on the rocks and another for my friend here." She brought him two trays, each with a drink "set up" and two mini bottles, one tray for him and the other for "his friend." Since pre-departure drinks must be consumed or picked up before departure, I was told that he managed to down them all before takeoff.”

Was really happy to hear Stills, Nash and Young's tributes to David.....they all praised him beyond the crap that broke up the band. Stills was still friends with him but I figured he'd burned the bridges with Neil and Graham beyond repair. Good to hear them put that to rest with his passing
