They actually do the measurements at the combine and he was 6'8.5" with shoes on and had a 6'10" wingspan. So I don't know where this is coming from.

From what little I've read about Cam from sun's fans, he sounds like he's a better post defender, as a PF, than a wing defender, which is what we'd need more.

    uhhhh...wut?

I wasn't saying anything negative about Johnson. Just replying to a post suggesting Johnson had a negative wingspan (wingspan less than height). I've always though wingspan was a bit overrated anyway. It matters, but not as much as people think

True wing span is overrated, but I am not sure I see a difference between overrating wing span and overrating height. You mentioned matching the 6'9" Cam with Grant. I assume that was because they are both long. Every day there seems to be a thread about how short the Blazers are. Personally, I just care about
how good the players are on both ends of the court and how they fit together, not where the top of their head is.

Edit: I do like his talent though

Agreed, I care about all-around skill more than height but if you want to compete, you can't fill your roster with a bunch of Dame's. You need more height to balance things out.

Just as you want an all-around player (ideally) you also want an all-around team (i.e., different heights).

Of course, along with that is your last statement of not caring where the top of their head is.

True, I care more about what's in the head than the top of the head.

The "change" would likely need to be Nurk and us guaranteeing the Bulls our pick this year so we can ship two or three FRPs to Toronto. So, I think that might be an offer they'd have a hard time refusing. If we could get a serviceable big that has the athleticism to play Chauncey ball for Josh after or before that trade, then this team would be looking good heading into next season.

Seems like a good way to waste 30 million in trade assets. Not that I dislike either of those two players, but that does not move the needle an inch.

what is with you and Ayton?

Portland would be stupid to pay Ayton 33M/year. I don't think any C is worth over 25M unless they are Jokic or Embiid. Sabonis, maybe

Yep I would rather have 2 centers at 16.5. Seems like a high-injury position....at least for us

I think Ayton would be special in this system. I wouldn't mind if we got him. If we did make the trade suggested, I would like to see us go after OG with Nurk and possibly a FRP and who cares how many SRPs.

Dame, Shae, OG, Jerami, Ayton, GP2, Nas, Drewbanks and Justise would make the playoffs and could really grow into a contender. I think as long as a big is extremely mobile, it doesn't matter if he has a bunch of tools in his bag, he's valuable. Yeah, we would be overpaying Ayton but if next year or the year after that gets us a title then I won't care. Obviously the bench would have to get better.

Bol Bol + Nic Claxton + Eubanks are being paid less than 12.5M this year, combined

You're not wrong. I won't say I agree with you, but it's about paying the guys at the right positions with the skills, etc.
[The NFL is a great example. Don't pay large to a RB ... unless he's a 4-down back who stays healthy and has great hands with serious route running. Pay the QB, LT, WR, Edge, CB and a DT. Maybe a safety. The Elite TE. Others don't get paid large or for long. Okay, I could've missed a bit on that but a team has to pay for the positions make the difference.]

The NBA? Horford is long since earning his contract. Anthony Davis made his money during the Covid Championship ... otherwise, not since New Orleans. Nurkic probably got one year too many. Indiana thought Ayton was worth it for what he would bring to them. Ayton + Cam Johnson for Nurkic + Ant? I'm in on that trade. The Blazers have to add a pick or do pick swaps? Depends on the details.

And that's all because of Shaedon Sharpe. He looks THAT good this early. I don't like paying a non-superstar center BIG money though Ayton's is for 3 more years after this one. I like Cam Johnson even though he's needs to stay healthy for his growth curve. IMHO, Ayton is the cut-off line for big $$$ centers ... and his is questionable.
