Keith Smith says it cannot be renegotiated. I'd trust him, works for Spotrac and has worked in the FO of NBA teams before.
And I also guarantee GP was chatting with GS players this whole season. They are tight. Acting like they had no clue about his health status is the epitome of being disingenuous. Seems like retribution for us signing him away.
I bet this deal goes through. It has huge tax implications for 3 teams involved. Without it: GSW pays more tax. Portland goes into the tax. Atlanta goes into the tax. Lots of pressure on GSW to approve the deal, not to mention the human element of Gary actually wanting to be a Warrior. But like mentioned before, bad feelings could have been the motivating factor for leaking this detail.
Anyone who paused for 10 seconds to think about this situation has to realize it doesn't pass the smell test.
One note that came out yesterday: The "minutes restriction" that was told to the media came from Gary, not the team.
Would love to go back to a time machine and tell this board in December that the February narrative would be that GP2 got rushed back too soon!
Dame has a full on IG post for Josh Hart. Not a single iota for GP, no story, no likes on any posts mentioning GP, nothing.
With how much shit leaked (from the Blazers side) yesterday about Gary having issues with players/the team and how much he didn't want to be here, I'm betting that was part of the motivation to get this story out and explain his side.
By the way, they gave Gary a million fucking years to come back. It was Gary in the pre-season media availability that said he would be back by the start of the season, not the team. That ended up dragging out 3 months.
Yeah, the players know. EDIT: Justise and Gary don't follow each other on IG, even though each player follows every other Blazer. OOP
Here's the other interesting thing I see tracking on the GPII social media stuff ... all these Warriors stans who are saying the Blazers need investigated and are a horrible organization based on just his word at this point also are still like "just let the deal go through, anyway." So you're saying your guy is hurt, was mistreated, etc., buuuuuuuuut you still want the trade to stand as is? Like I said, doesn't pass the smell test. This comes off more as a parting shot from a bitter player than a situation where the Blazers put a gun to his head. I guess another thing I'd ask GPII if I could was "OK, why did you play at all, then?" And it's hard for him to say he just wanted to get back onto the court, because he still was missing games after he came back. And I don't see the Blazers' incentives to force him to play when he was contributing so little. The Blazers are going to take a PR hit here and I haven't seen any confirmation yet to suggest it's warranted.
also, wasn't he STILL under a minutes restriction and Chauncey so strictly wanted to abide by it? that was very obviously public info
Justise is sipping pain-killers in that photo as the Blazers force him back into action after 2 months out.
