Your point is spot on regarding that rule, and this has been reported as well in the media … if there are other provisions that can come to bear on it, I understand how the NBA would try to finesse it …

If it is simply cut and dried … that’s better for the Blazers. No admission of guilt. Full denial. It’s all on the Warriors and the rocks they can kick.

There is no provision made in the CBA for making trades or altering trades after the deadline... none. You simply cannot exchange assets in any way after the deadline. There's nothing to finesse. Maybe I'm misreading you and you're just saying the league would if they could but their hands are tied and they can't. If that's what you're saying that may very well be the case but it's very cut and dry.

So the Warriors complete the trade as is or they cancel it completely it's cut and dry. It's always dangerous and usually foolish to speak in absolutes but this is an absolute fact.

I think in the end the Blazers lose a 2nd round pick

Holy moly! I don't know how many times this needs to be posted but the trade cannot be amended in any way because it is after the trade deadline. The Warriors either accept it as is or it is off, completely off. This isn't an opinion of mine it's in almost every story about this situation.

I'm going to guess you'll need to say it a few more...

all that's true but I'm wondering if somehow they just don't adjust the trade. What do you think?

I'm now concerned about the Blazers' medical staff and how they treated Lillard. He had the same injury and played on it for years. Makes me wonder who, Lillard or the medical staff, was advocating for him NOT to have the surgery.

If you remember, and I do, Lillard had to be talked into getting the surgery.

interesting slant...but I sure seem to recall Dame saying that the doctors told him he could have surgery and correct the problem but he kept deciding to play thru. Maybe my recall is not total

Nah, you are correct. Plus, let's say the opposite was actually true. Would Dame have stuck with the franchise afterwards in a show of loyalty? I sincerely doubt it. It doesn't add up at all.

I remember reading that in the NBA protocol in the case of a player returning to action after surgery, was he had to be cleared by both the team doctor(s) and the surgeon(s) who performed the surgery. Payton's surgery was performed by two highly regarded orthopedic surgeons in Philadelphia

so this may be a case of a 1st and 2nd medical opinion vs a 3rd medial opinion

yup. and he was forced to sit out last year after he had tried playing with cortisone shots. same thing this year when the staff took overly conservative approaches with his calf strain to prevent Dame from hurting himself.

this has always been the case with the current staff, and yet Gary is the exception? gimme a break. something doesn't smell right.

And a medical staff can have a huge influence on Dame's decision whether or not to have surgery.

"Dame, there is a strong chance surgery won't even help."

He played with a serious problem for 3-4yrs that finally was corrected with surgery. Doesn't sound like the Warriors would have allowed Dame to play that long with that injury.

Maybe if you learned more about it by paying attention to the details, you wouldn't think it was a cluster F. Without knowing the details, how could you possibly have any opinion?

The Warriors have already made their decision. They'll just wait to the last minute to let everyone know.
