As long as he doesn't have Oden's bones, modern technology should be able to fix any injuries as fast as anyone else. Will he have more than most? Maybe...throw some knee braces on him and have him take some courses on falling down perhaps.
I have difficulty believing he's 230 (as Nate said he's listed). John Butler is 175. Is Wemby any thicker than he is?
Chet was 7-1 and 190. There is absolutely no way Wemby is 230. The Mocks have him all over the place from 210 to 230 and 7-2 with a 7-8 wingspan. Chet ends up with a foot injury immediately and misses his entire first year. His second surgery on that foot was December to remove the hardware involved in recovery. Multiple reports have Wemby as much less than 210. They are not allowing anyone to actually weigh him at this point. It's all off what someone is telling the media. I read up on his strengths and weaknesses. The guy has some absolutely uncanny capabilities. Great scorer and offensive rebounding with tip ins and great touch around the hoop. He's extremely mobile and can move well with good footwork. Here is one thing that stands out. Good shooter and free throw shooter. Kareem was never a great FT shooter. His size allows him to block shots well. Hear me out here. All that upside is tough to look past. Here is the problem. He lacks strength. His lack of physical strength makes him attempt tough shots and forces him outside. It's going to be way worse in the NBA. There are questions about his motor. This is a huge red flag to me. The overall lack of strength and weight tell me he is years from contributing in the NBA if he can actually stay healthy. Remember the conversations with bigs in the NBA. Their game usually takes 3-4 years to get where they are supposed to be. Taking this guy with the number #1 pick would be a huge building block that might not ever pan out. Just not comfortable with it. Edit- Let me conclude also that I will never be a fan of tanking so I also won't want to try to get the number one pick unless it absolutely falls into their laps. If they happen to actually get that pick I would be more inclined to trade it for a proven player. If they happen to miss the first pick they might do better going the Miller, Walker or Taylor Hendricks route.
i was deathly afraid of Chet last year and was told off by some posters here that my fears were unfounded. funny how they've all stayed predictably silent when his season ending injury was announced. but wemby is different. i think his superstar potential outweighs the possible injury risk.
