We're planning a trip to the Keys. Probably fly into Miami, rent a car, then wend our way South. Never been there Kind of a bucket list item.
Anybody got any tips for Bogota, Colombia or Punta Cana, Dominican Republic? I'm going next week. Bogota for just 2 days, Punta Cana for 4.
NICE! I've only been to rural parts of Colombia that border Venezuela. Would love to go to Bogota. Have been looking at going to Punta Cana? Where are you staying? Have you been following the Sargassum reports?
So, unfortunately we are staying in Bavaro, in an Airbnb, where the Sargassum seems to be rampant. On the plus side, we'll have a car because my mother-in-law is working/living in Santo Domingo currently, which is why we're going to DR in the first place. With the car, we'll be able to "easily" drive to other beaches that aren't as bad. We may also go to Isla Saona for one of the days. That's all dependent on how bad the beach is where we are, but we'll have some options. Our original plan was just to visit Bogota, where my MIL owns an apartment and was going to meet us. She ended up not being able to get the time off so we changed plans to fly from Bogota to Santo Domingo, then drive to Punta Cana.
This guy is goofy but he's been traveling the world on the cheap. He was just in DR 4 mos ago. Went to some cool beaches that tourists don't visit. You might want to check out his videos from 3 and 4 months ago. https://www.youtube.com/@williamtaudien/videos
I asked our Airbnb host about the sargassum, he said there's not much this time of year and the beach our Airbnb has access to is cleaned every day. So we'll see. I'll check those videos out, thanks!
Heading out to the coast this weekend, staying in Cannon Beach. Don't have much planned as it'll be mostly R&R, but they are releasing some floats in Lincoln City and the wife really wants to find one. Has anyone here had any luck locating one? Any tips or tricks?
Go to one of the glass stores in Lincoln City, buy one, hide it when your wife isn't looking and let her find it. https://www.lincolncityglasscenter.com/
I have not found one, but know people who have. I guess the Nelscott beach area is a good area to look. I was down in February looking for one for my wife. If you are not there at first light, you will be late. Lots of people out looking as soon as it is light enough. I hope you have better luck then I did.
There are places where you can blow your own, I guess. That'd be a good option. I've never "blown my own" before. Didn't think it was possible physically lol
Trip report for Bora Bora. It's awesome. Outside of the resorts it's surprising underdeveloped though. No real reason to leave the resort other than an excursion or a drive around the island. We have been staying on the mainland for the last 5 days, beachfront at the intercontinental. It's been great and there are a few restaurants just outside the hotel that allows us to save some money on food (but not much). Transferring to hotel on the Motu today and getting and over water bungalow for 3 nights. After that we will have had our fill of Bora Bora, then off to Moorea for a week.
