I think KATs defensive woes are a bit overstated. Think he can be adequate. And ya Rockets would be stupid to do that but there was an article highlighting how much theyve already been screwing his development. They don't seem very intellingent down there at the moment.
I don't know...maybe you guys are right and the Blazers trade the pick of course, several posters here were saying the same thing a year ago. And I'd think the optimism about Sharpe will give the Blazer FO good reason to value the pick. I'd also wonder why they hired Mike Schmitz if they were planning on trading high draft picks my inclination, right now, is to believe the Blazers will keep their pick because the value of 1st's in trades has never been lower and there will not be any realistic all-star targets around the draft
Needs the right coach and system with defensive wings. I dunno if we can provide all that but as you said.... Beggars can't be choosers
The crazy thing is I think there's a guy that's exactly like Ausar Thompson who will be in this draft. Well he's exactly like Ausar genetically. "Ausar!" "Amen!" "Amen?" "Ausar?"
This! I'm sick of the narrative of 'X happened. But Cronin's plan should have been Y'. The reality is that Cronin was PLANNING on Y but the market for Y sucked when compared to X.
There is no way we trade the pick. We don't have enough assets to get enough players good enough to make us a contending team. We will try to build through the draft as we should. If Dame wants out he will be traded.
More than likely you are right, but we don't really know how much other teams value this year's draft prospects. I know this is probably a fantasy, but I am still holding out hope for Siakam. If you slip him into the starting lineup with Dame, SS, Grant, and Nurk then I do think that makes us a contender. Toronto is healthy and at 500. It is not working. Both their guards can opt out this summer. Seems like Scoot would be perfect for them. Siakam comes with a risk for both Toronto and Portland as he is a FA after next year. So unless he loves being in Toronto I think he is attainable. Ant's contract will probably be needed. Toronto could always move him later if they don't want him. But Ant, Scoot, plus NY's pick is a strong package....... if Toronto really likes Henderson. (and why wouldn't they? ) There will be decent talent at 23 as well. Granted it is a long shot that we even end up with a top 2 or 3 pick, but it is possible.
My issue with trading the pick is if we trade for any of these guys, and Grant leaves in FA, we will just be going through the process again for another year. Derozan, I’m completely out on. KAT, how will we have the money to also re-sign Grant and also field a competitive team? Middleton, I’m not trading a high to mid lotto pick for. Smith, maybe, but I’d hesitate trading a high lotto pick for him. Trading for Brown would suck if Grant just leaves, then he decides to leave the following summer. I’d rather draft a guy that fits Sharpe’s timeline and then give Grant his money to stay, even if it’s a slight overpay cause that’s the name of the game in Portland. Grant wants his money and his numbers, so I think the chances of retaining him is good if the money is right for him. The question would be is Ant, Nas, and multiple 1sts enough for any of those guys.
I hope you're wrong but if you're right Dame will want out. You are wrong that we don't have enough assets. We could get rid of our obligation to the Bulls and still have 5 FRPs that we could deal and three swaps. We have contracts outside of Dame and Jerami to match a max-supermax contract. We also have a lot of young talent that probably has varying value around the league. I guess we'll see.
Not near as much as 2-3. But neither you nor I know as much about the potential for the lottery picks as Ujiri does. He might love someone in that range. I was responding to "there is no way we trade the pick"........... and IMO that is very debatable.
I remember rumors that a team offered us a hall of famer for Oden. Rumor was it was Duncan….. you at least have to listen to all offers.
Draft the best available player when it's lotto time. I don't care if he is another 6.3 guard. Take the best.
Yeah I'm just generally curious what the value is for the pick because I think the dropoff is at around 5. Wemby/Scoot-Miller/Amen-Jarace, and then a drop from there. I'm wondering how much the post dropoff players will garner in a trade.
I think there’s a very good chance that he ends up being the best player from this draft and I think six other teams are going to massively regret not picking him.
How much has his PPG gone up in the past couple weeks? I've been impressed with how well he's shooting even though he's basically the only player the other team needs to defend.
