I believe that Minnesota performance in last two playoff games (despite missing their best defender all series) will entice then to believe that the Gobert/Towns pairing can work so Towns will not be available in any realistic trade proposal. Hard to believe that McDaniels would be available, but I would give it a try if I was Portland.

One guy who hasn’t been mentioned much but a guy who could instantly put us in contention Kawhi. Injury prone yes but would you trade Ant, this years pick couple of first for chance at Kawhi? Makes me nervous but he is one of the few guys in the league that makes whatever team he is on a potential title contender.

for that matter maybe even Paul George (yuck but talent wise makes sense)

Just announced he tore is Meniscus. Seems like way to many big injuries recently. I am not sure he is worth multiple first . He can't stay healthy and I would think he will have even more issues as he ages. Is someone who averages 52 or so games a season worth multiple first?

I don't think you are anywhere close to being right. I think it was painfully obvious that especially in today's NBA you can't have that much of your team salary invested in guys that big, neither of whom can cover smaller perimeter players well.

I actually think KAT is underperforming and is the trade chip that makes the most sense for them to move because although his trade value may have taken a small hit the past few seasons in which his game has been on a downward trajectory. I still think the guy has a lot of trade value. The same cannot be said for Gobert who has character issues and a very limited role that he can dominate in.

I understand the risk just throwing it out there. He’s one of the few guys in the league that can make you a title contender. With risk comes reward, minuscus is pretty minor but you’re right it’s huge risk for a guy who misses a ton of games. If you make playoffs and he’s healthy with Dame you have a dangerous team with few minor tweaks to roster you have a title contending team

    No to Leonard and George.
Both are very talented, but not what Portland needs right now.

I thought KAT looked pretty good in the playoffs, but you are probably right that his value has taken a small hit.... especially with the last 3 years of his 4-year contract averaging 54 million.

Gobert has 3 years left averaging 43 million. KAT is by far the better player so I think they will try it one more FULL year and see how it goes before dumping Gobert.

I agree. Plus they're not very likable to be honest. I could see them non stop whining about life in Portland.

Toronto got lightning in a bottle. But that looks to be the outlier.

theoretically, KAT may have more value. But that theory exists in a vacuum without the context of contracts and injury history. KAT is owed 52M/year over the next 5 years, and over the last 4 seasons has averaged 47 games/year. That combo is a torpedo to trade value

Karl Anthony Towns just needs a change of scenery. He’s obviously not a franchise guy. He needs to be playing with a guy like Dame, LeBron, Butler, a player that will get in his face and call him out when it needs to be done. I don’t think there’s a guy like that in Minnesota. I think that he would be a good risk if the option is there.

You could be right. The whining drives me nuts, but he does have skills. He needs to toughen up on the court. He's gone through a lot of heartbreak, on and off the court, so maybe a change of scenery and getting to play with Dame ups his game.

KAT has already been teamed with Jimmy Butler....
    It didn't help him much.

Yeah that's a funny post as they actually did play together and it was an epic fail.

i still take the chance on KAT if the price to get him is something like Ant, the NY pick, and Nurk. Would need to send Nurk to a third though.

I don't expect KAT to make us a contender, or even really be worth his contract, but that's the type of veteran and the type of cost Id be happy to risk.

If it works out and KAT forms a deadly duo with Dame then great we go get the last vet two way starter to pair with them and contend.

If it doesn't work out we still have Sharpe, #5, and all our future lottery picks so we could pivot and rebuild.

The problem with trading all our future picks and or Sharpe for a win now vet is if it doesn't work to build a contender we're royally screwed the next decade.

I like your KAT proposal in that it gives Dame a real shot to try and win with an allstar now, but it sort of delays the full on commitment of emptying all our long term assets until we better know there is a real chance of it working.

This is why I’m hoping beyond hope to get Wemby. Getting Wemby with Sharpe would set us up for the next 10+ years. Then we trade Simons/Nurk for whatever. It would be interesting to get Draymond if we got Wemby.

I probably would too, but how would MIN ever get that desperate to trade the cornerstone of their franchise for only Ant, Nurk, and the NY pick?

MIN would have to be majorly desperate or just really believe in an Ant & Ant backcourt. Personally, I don’t know if that backcourt could ever work since neither are natural PGs.

But I agree, I would take him for that little of an asking price even for his last few years of that contract. If Dame/Sharpe/KAT doesn’t work, Dame requesting a trade would theoretically recoup all of the value lost in losing Ant.
