my response was to the claim that Dames latest means Nurk and Ant are being moved. Unless they're fleecing some team's GM, that won't be enough to "move the needle" as those two are not hot commodities. Ant may have some perceived value, but I truly doubt any GM is trying to figure out how to get a lumbering oft injured 5 making 17M per.

The needle movers on this roster are Dame and Shaedon.

Thanks for the explanation. I was more just riffing of your comment than replying to it.

The value is the pick that comes with either of those two. If that is not enough for a player who might not resign with them after next year, then sure....a trade won't work. But how often is a top 6 or 7 pick included in a trade? If that has no value then why bother collecting protected draft picks for trade purposes? I realize that there are only a limited number of teams that would actually meet our criteria for a trade, but that is true of most trades.

If Sharpe is the needle mover and we got him at #7, how do we know there is not another unproven young player with a ton of potential that other teams may fall in love with? Maybe that will be Walker or the Thompson brothers. Players often shoot up the draft board once teams start bringing them in for evaluations.

I’m certain there are rules around here about “Riffing”.
You need to be consistent and I even think there are certain guidelines?

While that very well may happen, no opposing GM is gonna let it out that he LOVES player XYZ and has to have him when being approached about a trade. The opposing GM will be down playing the talent pool in the draft doing everything he can to actually devalue our high lottery pick. Portland will only know who a GM would be targeting if they have a top 3 pick. Beyond that it is very subjective. In summary, Portland will have no leverage when peddling the lottery pick.

Its possible they already have a trade worked out, and could draft for someone else?

I agree. I think Cronin and other GM's already have details on potential deals ready to go. It's just depending on slotting. Obviously the Blazers probably keep the rights to Wemby if they get pick1. But if Milwaukee offered Giannis (don't see it happening, but you never know) For Pick 1, that changes things. But pick 2 on, i think discussions have already been done between teams not involved in these playoffs.

no it doesn't. Besides the upside of what VW could bring on the court, considering how much of a world wide media superstar he's slated to be, I'm pretty much positive no owner would want to give up potentially 10-20 years of that gravy train. Unless some team comes across sordid scandalous stuff or uncovers some degenerative condition for him physically, no team will be trading Victor no matter what is offered.

Pretty much everyone said as much about Anthony Davis and Zion.
Victor is the new shiny toy.

Those were two tremendous prospects who's career arcs have been derailed by injury, though honestly Davis was clearly a better prospect then Zion. Heck there were some here (cough cough) who valued Ja over Zion because of clear injury concerns. But Victor is on an even higher level then AD as a prospect with the potential to impact the game... given health, he's very likely to be the clear cut best player of his generation. Next add in that he's good looking, well spoken, international & the biggest guy in the league... all of that matters as far as generating interest. He's going to be marketed everywhere.

All that said...I would deal the right to draft him in a heartbeat if it got me Giannis.

No to Luka.....no defense. He is strictly a very high usage offensive player.

Wemby is the most hyped prospect since LeBron. Whole different level than AD and Zion.

Seems like they said the exact same things about Zion and the Brow. They both were the consensus #1 pick all year. They were both considered dynasty pieces.
I don’t see much difference here.

I'd think long and hard about Ant+Nurk+#1 for Embiid too

Wemby has been the consensus number 1 pick for this draft since he was like 15 years old. He could be a complete bust; but there has been significant chatter for literally years that he is the best prospect since LeBron and maybe even including LeBron.

they didn’t say the exact same things about the brow or Zion; not even close.

doesn’t mean he can’t be a bust, but there is clearly things said about him that they’ve never said about another prospect.

probably also aided by the fact that he supposedly was cooking DPOY gobert when he was 16.
