10 tries at the lottery, reset after each:

    7-4-2-1-6-2-2-4-1-8

should have stopped at the 9th time

if they trade the lotto pick for what I think they’re going to trade the lotto pick for, it’ll be a huge mistake.

Oh, just that some of the names being tossed around aren’t, in my opinion, worth sending out a lotto pick for; and I’m skeptical some of the real difference makers will be available at a price that actually makes sense.

It'll definitely be a gamble. Of the rumors, only Jaylen Brown seems like a significant player, ie a difference maker. Although I'd be very happy with either OG or Bridges... unfortunately it seems likely to be that pick (unless it's Wemby!) and more picks and players for the aforementioned Brown, OG, or Bridges.

Cronin has telegraphed our plan, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. Regardless, I'm ready to see what going-for-it looks like. At least, I think I am.

Dame has done more to telegraph the teams plans than Cronin

The outcome will more than likely be an overpayment for a good but not great player. We will go into the season with one of our best rosters in recent years, and then get bounced in the first or second round because our offense is too easy to guard in the playoffs

it won't be OG, IMO; he's not worth a top-7 pick, plus more, and I don't think Cronin of the F.O, believe otherwise. It might be Siakam though

Portland is in a fence-straddling bind that was a decade in the making, so, none of the paths from this point are certain or that attractive. If the Blazers do go for it this summer, at least they chose a side of the fence to stand on.

that could very well be the outcome. But are you implying that after having the 5th worst record in the NBA, in a single off-season elevating the roster to the level of a 2nd round playoff team is a failure? Why would that be a failure? It could 'easily' mean that a subsequent move or transaction could make them a dark-horse contender....which would be the best place the Blazers have been since the Pippen/Rasheed/Sabonis team

there really seems to be a mindset around this place that if the Blazers can't become a contender this summer, basically with one trade, the summer is a failure. That makes no sense to me

The failure is borne of the idea that Portland is going to mortgage their entire future of the next 8+ seasons on this gamble to placate Dame when this club has been mismanaged his entire career. If Portland surrenders this lottery pick, four future firsts and 4 pick swaps and Ant for a first or second round exit on players that can leave after one season, yes, that can and will be considered a failure by everyone, especially Dame and media. It's not like we are trying for Durant, who had 3 years left on his contract when the Suns traded for him. Many here want Brown, who is duplication of Sharpe, who could bounce after a season. Same with Siakam, a 3-4 tweener who rebounds a little better than Grant who he basically duplicates and can bounce after the season too. Bridges, Bam and Embiid are hopefully seen as unobtainable here. The players available are Collins, Simmons, Gobert/KAT and players like this that personally I would not want anything to do with. Especially after Dame has been on his world tour making sure every GM sees his desperation, allowing them to bend Cronin over. Yes, I am resigned to Portland is gonna muck the future up. It is the Portland way, keep it weird.

oh for chrissakes...not only the the absolute worst case scenario, but the absolute most stupid case scenario...and that's the gauge you expect me to argue in favor of? GTFO

LOL....5 first round picks, including a top-5 pick, and 4 pick swaps...for who exactly?...and when did they suspend the CBA?

I want the Blazers to compete some time soon. I am of the belief that it can’t given our current assets and money going out

Those picks along with Ant (even some include Sharpe and I forgot all the second rounders and 23 from NY) and other filler are the assets Portland has available for this endeavor. I think that is easily agreeable as many posters have been tossing them around here in various trade scenarios. I wasn't proposing a trade, I never do or have. I just provided an inventory list of assets and what posters here are more than willing to give up to strap the club for 8+ years. How many years does Dame have left, 3-5? And we are potentially mortgaging the future 8 years out? As for the CBA, I have a general idea of how it works. When I was younger and didn't have children I knew way too much about it and could recite it. Stating what assets we have at our disposal does not violate the CBA. How you try structuring the deal(s) could. But don't pretend many posters aren't proposing emptying the coffers for a combo of Brown, Siakam and DeRozen.

"competing some time soon" and trading Dame doesn't match. At all

and if the goal is to "compete" sometime 7-10 years from now, trading or keeping Dame doesn't matter, at all, either
