Because it's a "realistic trade option."

This Dame for Brown stuff is hilarious. I think the only two ways the team goes is try to build a winner around Dame or go complete youth rebuild. I don’t see us trading Dame for another established superstar or all star. It would make no sense from a competition standpoint and even less sense from a PR standpoint.

Simons best position is PG, but he's not a Dame clone. IMO, he fits best there in a positionless attack where there is a lot of ball movement and off ball screens to free up shooters, which is obviously a strength of his. Clearly he is too small to primarily guard wings. Shaedon would seem to be a good backcourt pairing as he has some handles/playmaking skills as well. If Dame is moved, I'd think/hope it is primarily for dead weight contracts and future assets. Grant is 29 and I expect him to resign as Portland has his Bird rights and they gave up a lot to get him. If they go into full future rebuild mode, they'll be able to move him as he's a good player with some tread left.

I have real concerns with Brown as he'd be mega expensive and has had persistent knee issues. If his knees are okay, why wouldn't Boston re-up with him as he's on Tatum's timeline?

As a reminder, here is the price Phoenix paid to get 34-year-old Durant. To "win now."

All-NBA forward Kevin Durant was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns for a package that includes dynamic forward Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and four unprotected future first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029) and a pick swap in 2028, the team announced on Thursday.

What was the big "win now" trade that Denver made?
They got KCP for Will Barton and Monte Morris.
They got Aaron Gordon for Gary Harris, the 24th pick in the 2000 draft (RJ Hampton), and a protected 2025 1st round pick.
Jokic, Murray, and Michael Porter Jr. were drafted by Denver.

Bruce Brown signed as a free agent.

I think Boston preference is to resign Brown. He is probably only available if he refuses to stay in Boston.

Agreed. There is a fine line between being aggressive and being stupid. I guess if it goes south they could always trade Booker and Durant for draft picks and start over. But I think what we saw was a new owner trying to make a splash who had no relationship or understanding of how good Bridges was. He was banking on winning this year, without much chemistry or depth. By next year Bridges will be better than the 35-year-old Durant. An old 35 IMO while playing a lot of playoff games over 17 years.

Yeah, KD playing 8 games with that team before the playoffs started, seemed pretty problematic. I don't know if that team will be healthy enough to make a run next season or if another year will diminish KD and even more so CP3 to the point where they aren't good enough. That being said, if those guys can both play at the highest level they played at this season and stay healthy along with Booker, Ayton and maybe an addition at the other starting forward spot with the TPMLE, they would probably be contenders and could just run it back.

Pretty iffy situation though given the injury histories of CP3 in his 19th season and KD in his 17th.

    Durant just got ousted.

    We land 2-4

we trade the pick, ant, nas, and nurk and however many picks it takes to get Durant.

    oh wait. Realistic…

if I was the Blazers I'd be extremely reluctant to bail Phoenix out of their 'mortgaged-the-future' mess by shipping replacement 1st's and talent to them for '35-year-old-52M/year-quite possibly-fading' Durant

Agree. Phoenix can live with their mercenary. At least he will have access to good golf weather. And snakes. Lots of them, everywhere.

KD should not be the piece we try to acquire. He's too expensive and may not have that much game left in him. Don't get me wrong maybe he has a great season next season but even that seems like a coin flip. After next season, the dude might not even be playable. I think the team should look to add someone like Julius Randle (maybe not him but someone like him) who has years left in his prime and although he's not a former or future MVP he could be that second all star we are looking for and he wouldn't cost so much that we couldn't pursue another big time player if we get him and by him I mean a player like Randle or Randle if we can.

For the record, i should have included green font. Durant is as delusional a get for various reasons as Brown is. :)

If there is anything to do in PHX it has to be around Ayton - and that is a risk for sure, but the Blazers are in a pickle with what they can get if they want to contend with Dame. It has to be a risk/reward situation that might not work.

So, something like Ayton/Shamet/Payne for Ant/Nurk/Little/Keon and a 2nd round pick (or maybe NYK 1st if it is a must) works.

It gives PHX some depth and getting out of the Ayton situation where he and Monte do not work together.

The Blazers get a young mobile center that might be overpaid, a vet backup PG and a shooter off the bench.

Even ignoring the rookie(s) and no real other trades, you resign Grant, you can play Dame, Sharpe, Matisse, Grant and Ayton with Payne, Shamet, Reddish/Knox (whichever one that is brought back), T-Wat, Eubanks off the bench. That's not a bad starting point.

Phoenix desperately needs an infusion of youth.

That team used to be very young and very deep and now they're neither.

Ayton's pouting does him no service. You think the Suns regret matching that 30 mil. per year deal that the Pacers offered? Nurk's 17 per looks decent in comparison.

I agree. Payne and Laundry Shammy are very inconsistent players. I'd rather have Seth Curry as our sharp shooter off the bench.
