If we go the route of building around Dame… He will be 33 years old at the start of next season. I think being realistic, that gives the Blazers a 3 year window with Dame as a top player in the league… he would be 35 years old in the 3rd season of this window. If we look up and down the current roster, it’s one of the youngest in the league. We probably need to make multiple moves to acquire more experienced players to make a real run. To make a real run the team would need to gel and develop chemistry, which may take a season. So becomes a 2 year window. Which brings me to the point of this thread… What if 33-35 year old Dame suffers an injury? With such a small window to win, one injury could close the window completely. Then we would end up having traded a potential all star in the 3rd pick to pair with Sharpe the next decade for essentially nothing.
There is no "IF" OP. We are absolutely making a trade and building around Dame. Welcome to the board though and nice second post
doesn't bother me...just strikes me as a pointless question. Any player can have a serious, career altering injury, including young players like Sharpe, or whoever Portland might use the 3rd pick on and of course, Dame could remain healthy and play at a high level for 4 more years; and whoever Portland traded the 3rd pick for could remain healthy and play the best ball of his career alongside Dame in Portland. And the Blazers might make other good moves that work out real well and Portland could be a contender but sure, lets instead worry about the worst outcome for every decision Portland makes
Considering that Lillard played with an ab injury for 3 years that GPII couldn't play with for 3 mins, then when finally able to get it fixed came back and had his best year as a pro, Lillard's desire and determination makes a career-ending injury unlikely. *knocks on wood
No need for an apology. Just happens on here from time to time. Random thought pops up and people want to start a thread. Welcome to our fine forum. Many on here aren’t as friendly and welcoming as myself, so THREAD lightly.
Hey guys, what happens if Dame is old and gets injured? And did you guys know he doesn't play good defense? I say trade every player before they get the chance to get injured.
You're so right, no one has been talking about Dame's age and narrowing window or the fact that he has a greater chance of being injured as he ages... haven't been reading about that from half of the people who post on here constantly this off season. Good fucking grief did you just start a thread with an all green font OP or have you really not been paying attention to the overall conversation in this forum?
I haven't seen much of a discussion about players getting injured in a "win now" scenario, or how short the window could be.
I wasn’t referring to career ending injury, but any injury that caused him to miss significant time with such a short window to mesh with a new roster and contend. I’m not trying to upset people, this just feels like a major fork in the road for the franchise… and I’m trying to think about this realistically. Is it absurd to assume Dame won’t have perfect health from age 33-35?
Dame is working on extending his 3pt shooting range to the locker room, so even if he's injured he can still contribute.
