Again, Dame is putting pressure on the team to put together a better team. They are listening. We'll see what happens.
If we trade Dame, it's going to be super interesting to revise this conversation in 4-5 years. Actually, neither will be interesting because the side that got what they wanted will still say "it still ended up better than going the other direction." or point to all the other mistakes outside of #3 vs Dame that caused things to not work out.
He has been applying pressure... but at what point does "applying pressure" turn into "I'm done waiting." Or do you think that Dame won't get to that point? By that I mean, do you think it's all bluster and he wouldn't ask for a trade if the Blazers call his bluff?
If we trade Dame, we will never know what would have happened. We can speculate. Obviously we can lament bad draft picks or rebuilding. Or we can see where Dame goes and wish that was us. If he goes to Miami and wins a ring, are fans going to say "that could have been us!"
But if Scoot isn't good as Dame it means we won't have to pay him as much as Dame and then we could finally have the money to sign one of the many free agents lining up to play here.
No, I'm curious. Do you think Dame would follow through and ask for a trade if the team doesn't add any significant veterans this summer?
Not for me. Unlike you and many others, my decision on if we should trade #3, trade Dame, or do neither are very much weighted on what assets are available in exchange for those things. If Dame could net us Luka, but #3 couldn't, I'd trade him in a second. If #3 could net us Luka, but Dame couldn't, I'm kissing the #3 pick goodbye. If the best we could get for #3 or Dame was Duncan Robinson and 5 second round picks, I'm keeping both. I have no clue how people can think one direction is the best, regardless of what we get in exchange.
Probably not. I think the Blazers will add veterans though so it's neither here or there. They will make trades and appease Lillard and keep him here. They will continue to build around Dame with a shared vision. Hopefully, it's ultimately successful.
That's right. If we trade Dame, there will be a bunch of assumptions made on what he would've done in Portland. If we trade the #3 pick, there will be a lot of assumptions on who we would've picked, how well said person would've played, how well we would've built a roster around #3, and how long we could've retained #3. If #3 ended up winning a ring in say Toronto, fans are going to say "that could have been us had we just kept the pick!" It's going to be the same debate either way. I'll go on record saying neither Dame nor the #3 pick in this years draft will win a title in Portland. And I really really really hope to have egg on my face in a few years!
And Sharpe probably leaves for the bright lights and big city . That's an absolute that has a fair chance of being correct.
Lmao @Natebishop3 not responding to this… so predictable. Doesn't fit the narrative so ill just ignore it and keep spinning circles. Ill check back tomorrow to see/read the same circles again without acknowledgement of the other side of the coin….
I don’t think anyone will say that cause we don’t have Jimmy and Bam. People are gonna say “why didn’t our shitty Front office get him help for over a decade”.
I honestly believe we already wasted our opportunity with Lillard holding onto CJ for as long as we did, now towards the end everyone wants to fix the mistakes of a decade in one offseason. I hope it works but I highly doubt it will.
