We got the #3 pick. Discuss the possibilities.

?

What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

you don't understand...posters here know more about a player's thinking and what his intentions are than the GM who talks to the player on a regular basis

Lol. It's not dumb. What would be dumb is making a win now move when we don't have a win now roster after any trade scenario.

We'd be the dumbest team in the league if we trade it for Markannen or Porzingas or Siakim. I'd like to actually see a chance 5 years from now to compete when dame is past his prime. We aren't winning with any trade this year so we would be fucking dumb to do it.

It's very freeing when you don't get wrapped up in every possibility and remember it's a franchise that'll be here a decade from now. It's fine that we may not win with Dame because of situations. But I ain't mortgaging the future because we feel we "have to win now". No trade out there is worth the #3 pick. So save your future anger because of your faulty expectations.

I honestly think there are only two outcomes. Pick 3 and just about everyone under contract besides Dame and Shae will be traded for an all star/all nba level player and better fitting role players or Joe will draft BPA with all of the picks say that there weren't any good deals and expect Dame to ask out which he will.

Cool, then Dame shouldn't be on the roster and to be honest I don't like the Scoot/Ant fit so Ant should probably be shipped too but to carry all three of those guys into next season would be absurd. It doesn't have to be a win now move, it just needs to make sense. Either we try to win now with Dame or we commit to a youth rebuild without him... especially if the guy we draft with pick 3 is a ball dominant point guard.

I am gonna laugh at everyone that expected there to be a win now trade when all the workable trades don't help us get over the hump.

Build towards the future. I love dame more than most but it's plain to see that no trade helps us win now. The only smart and right decision is to take the leftover of scoot and miller (to which we don't have much control being the latter of the picks). Reality. It's fun.

This is what I assume about all of the reporting right now.

Guys like you and Nate Bishop go off all absolutist chicken little on that one quote without any regard to nuance, context, or potentialities.

I could do the same and say "Did Dame say he'd ask for a trade if the Blazers used the third pick on Scoot?" Because he didn't. You want to be a literalist on the first part and then read the tea leaves on the rest.

Dame wants the team to be better. The team can be made better while still using the third pick on the best talent remaining on the board, which has a strong likelihood of becoming a bigger star than anyone we can trade it for.

Anyway, I suggest you and Nate chill a bit, stop picking and choosing how much you take literally and understand there's a huge gulf between Dame saying adding 19-year-olds to the Blazers roster is tantamount to him storming out and saying "Trade me now!" and actually building a team that Dame, a pretty reasonable guy who's never been a ring chaser, can contend with while he still has the ability to make a major impact on the outcomes.

I am more and more leaning towards just drafting at 3 and if Dame asks out telling him no.

    Dame
    Shaedon
    Miller
    Grant
    ??

Trade Nurk / Simons / 23 for the best C or SF we can find.

Sign the best backup PF/C/SF we can get (whatever we need).

Give Shaedon and Miller a couple years to grow and hopefully make a push towards the twilight of Dame’s career.

I expect today in terms of rumors outside of maybe Scoot and Miller debate for Charlotte to be kind of dead cause I think today and maybe tomorrow leading up to the draft on Thursday anything said is prolly just a smoke screen. I think the next two days every team is getting there ducks in a row and making sure they have dotted all the I's and crossed all the T's on there evaluations and other things like trade offers etc. I could be wrong and maybe something big breaks but I think now prepare for a onslaught of ESPN etc etc conjecture pieces and interviews.

He did literally say that he didn't want the team to use the pick and wants vets around him to win now and when asked what would happen if the team did use the pick he said he'd have to have a "different kind of conversation then". It wasn't a happy conversation he was talking about. If you can't grasp what was being said in those two interviews, I just don't know what to tell you. He was pretty fucking clear to the point that a ton of people in here were saying that he was backing Joe into a corner and ruining Joe's leverage.

The duelling Dame/FO PR campaigns are pretty hilarious, and neither side seems to care about the fans in the middle.

As much as I love Dame and he has earned the respect from fans, we need to do what is best for the team in the short and long term, not just to make sure he gets a ring to cement his legacy.

I don't know what's going to happen. I have my druthers, but I rarely get what I want. I want Dame to stay; he may not. I want Portland to keep the pick; they may not. I wanted Olshey fired and CJ traded in 2015; it took 7 years. So yeah, what do I know

I do know this: the schizophrenic emotional roller coaster some of you guys are seeming to ride over every new wave of tweets, speculation, and obvious bullshit looks like a ride you should get off for the next 2-3 days

Not really an interesting article. It's a stilted rehash of stuff a lot of national writers have speculated (and so far been wrong about time and time again), this one in particular written to stir the hopes of Heat fans.

Was CJ quoted in this? I didn't see a direct quote, but maybe I missed it. All I saw was him paraphrasing what CJ told SAS, which has been talked about here ad nauseum, without the important point that CJ made it clear he didn't talk to Dame and it was just his opinion.

The other thing is that this writer is going from Dame saying his path wasn't to build around more 19-year-olds to now he's now building around young players or draftees at all.

Like I said, stilted, not breaking any news. It's basically a bit above an informed fan saying what he hopes happens for his favorite team.

I'd like it. I'd probably do Ant and pick for OG and Nurk/Little for Ayton. Bring Miller off the bench.

    Dame
    Shae
    OG
    Grant
    Ayton

    BU: Miller, Thybulle

Where did he literally say he didn't want the team to use the pick? I might have missed something. Can you show me a link?

I agree. If we can't put together a competitive team around Dame then we should move him and go into full on youth rebuild but I think there are probably a few ways to build that team around him. Cronin can play it safe an fuck over Dame or he can do what he said he'd do an swing for the fences.
