Should we trade for Jerami Grant?

  1. Yes, he's a very good player, and I provide evidence below

    12.8%
  2. Sure if it's not for much - I wouldn't give up the Pelicans' first rounder though

    54.7%
  3. No, he's overpaid and inefficient

    29.1%
  4. Other (explain)

    3.5%

Don’t give me any kudos. Give Grant kudos. Regular people change their opinions as new things unfold.

I didn’t come to the light. Grant had to come to the light. Had he not been open to being a 3rd option again, you’d would’ve been wrong. So kudos to Grant.

You really think he liked what he had going in Detroit? Those were the only two years when his shot attempts & scoring were way up as a #1 option. But the D knew it too and he doesn't really create for others so his percentages plummeted and they lost and lost. With Dame and Simons, yes his shot attempts are down but the D isn't focused on him so he gets better opportunities. Better opportunities equal better results with his PPG remaining more or less the same on fewer shots. A better fit/situation and he's enjoying arguably his best year (highest PER) of his career going into Free Agency.

So sorry, but I'm going to continue to give you more credit for changing your mind then Grant for recognizing the obvious.

Everything you said is true, and none of those things matter. Recognizing the obvious and changing your mindset don’t go hand-in-hand.

This is worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. He talks about the reservations he still initially had coming here.

Yeah, actually those were the ONLY two years he was the #1 option. He knew what he signed up for by choosing Detroit. The dude said he wanted to be a #1 option, then quickly gained a lot of respect for #1 options who have to do it night in and night out.

I can’t do anything more than post a video for you to hear it for yourself from his mouth. If you were going to hand me a “told ya so” and no one else, you obviously care way too much about this or you want your internet prize.

So here it is, I’m wrong and you’re right. Whether I really believe I’m wrong or not doesn’t matter, because I publicly acknowledged I’m wrong to you. Congrats gramps, lol. This is my last comment on the matter.

    what a crock of shit

please, somebody, anybody, compile a realistic list of the teams that would actually have 30M in cap-space in July and would be eager to spend it on Grant

In my opinion, in a rebuild, I would be okay with handing over the PF position to Watford and Winslow and seeing what shakes out. I just have a feeling that Watford could turn into something special with this team.

5 for 150 --- Did we go back to the future and land on April Fools day -- NM -- the Blazers are run by the biggest fool of them all in Cronin but there is one thing that makes this BS for me. This would mean that Jody would have to spend money and prolly go into the tax so I call BS on this one.

Very much in the range that has been speculated for weeks and probably what was agreed to a year ago. It's high. The cap is also almost for sure going up 10% every year for a bit, which will make deflate contracts not tied as a percentage of the cap.

Obviously Portland needs to draw a line on what they give Grant, but losing him for nothing would be a near disaster.

Spurs would certainly do it for one season, maybe Rockets or other teams too. They'd likely pay him more, possibly the max.

I don't know that they would give the years, I mean they can only do max of 4. But I think they would do something for one year and promise to try and trade him to team of his choice. They have about $80 million in cap space.

This makes Jaylen Brown $250 million not sound so bad. Also makes the KAT/Ayton/etc contracts not sound bad. We're possibly going to end up with a way worse contract

Well we gave Nurkic $70 million when nobody would give him more than the MLE, so yeah I'm not hopeful of our management making good free agent decisions.

Full speed ahead to Mediocrity here we come!

I don't believe that. I just don't accept that teams would be giving out 120-150M contracts for non-all-star players as future trade speculation

I never said they would. I said they'd likely offer him a max for one year - so thats ~$40million expiring.

Either way his agent can threaten that to the Blazers that he's leaving for nothing unless he gets a huge payday from Portland.

Blazers gave Nurk $70 million when no other team was offering him the MLE if even that. So Portland has a history of stupidly overpaying in these situations. Every time we hear this justification that its only overpaying such and such % or so and so many millions. Yeah if we made one mistake like that fine. But when you get a collection of these overpaid contracts up and down all over your roster you end up in the same position as Neil did in 2016. No players on contracts with any trade value, capped out up to the luxury tax, no way to build a contending team, no flexibility. Mediocrity is guaranteed.

I was thinking that, too: who was going to pay Nurk that? Who was going to pay Ant that?

This management has a tendency to bid against itself so... who knows?

I was talking about the assertion that teams other than Portland would give Grant a contract of 30M/year

I think Dallas would be interested in Jerami, but they don't have that much cap space if they re-sign Kyrie

If they lose Kyrie, they might be as desperate as we are.

by the way, for those interested, a 5-year/30M contract for Grant would look something like:

    2023-24 - 26M
    2024-25 - 28M
    2025-26 - 30M
    2026-27 - 32M
    2027-28 - 34M

so the salary wouldn't actually hit the 30M threshold till the 3rd season
