Its possible the Blazers may need to evaluate Dame trade options. Yes this has a sad element and many posters here may want to stay out of this thread at this time, please feel free to leave if you wish.

    This thread is to consider idea of Dame trades. I'll start with a Heat trade idea;

$3.5 million #18 pick selected yesterday Jaime Jaquez Jr
$29.6 million Kyle Lowry expiring contract
$9.4 million Victor Oladipo expiring contract
Two 1st round picks unprotected 2027 and 2029
Three 1st round pick swaps unprotected in 2026, 2028, and 2030
Two 2nd round picks in 2026 and 2029

$45.6 million Dame trade - saves the Blazers about $2-3 million. Gives Blazers control of Heats unprotected picks for 5 years in 2026-2030.

Other players to be acquired instead would be Herro or Robinson salary, I'd prefer the expiring contracts above instead of those overpaid deals.

If Blazers want a third first round pick a much less valuable 2025 pick that is the lesser of multiple teams selections can be acquired then routed to Miami to free up all of Miami 2026 2028 2030 picks to be traded unprotected instead. Then add swaps in 2027 and 2029

Actually I realized that initial 2026 swap probably isn't possible 100% of the time as the Blazers don't fully control their own pick due to Chicago possibly having it. Blazers could do a swap dependent on them keeping the pick, but that removes the upside if its the first year the Blazers make the playoffs and the Heat are bad. So the Blazers would need to somehow get a 2026 pick in that scenario to be able to swap... Probably makes more sense to just somehow get the Heat a terrible 2025 1st round pick so the Stephen rule frees up the Heats 2026 pick to go to Portland unprotected.

Only player for next season would be yesterdays #18 pick, so if your a fan that wants immediate players help in return no this is not a good package.

But potentially controlling 5 years of Heat picks unprotected when Dame and Butler are nearly 40 could be one of the greatest draft asset returns in NBA history.

Also free's up massive salary for the Blazers to make other moves next summer and the 3 years after that.

Yeah there's some risk the picks won't be as valuable as we hope, but theres also the potential reward they are vastly more valuable than we expect.

I'm open to other ideas, thats the point of this thread. Brooklyn is the other team most often mentioned. But the above is basically the max offer we could get from the Heat as far as I can tell.

Raps still have OG and Siakam, along with Poetl if they retain him.

Barnes would be so perfect with Scoot and Sharpe! I wonder if Raptors will be on Dame’s list

Haven't we done this to death?

Basically Miami is the main suitor but makes no sense to us. The only place that is vaguely plausible is Brooklyn, but we'd want Bridges and that's the one guy they'd want to keep. So you're left with something like this:

Plus a SHIT TON of picks

(Kind of hilarious that according to that, we come out winners in that trade)

I was just listing the current assets that would be needed to match salaries up. I'll leave it to the experts to determine what future picks would be necessary to balance value.

In an alternate universe we probably made that trade, got those players and the phoenix 1s and Simmons returned to previous all nba form, Claxton became dominant and the suns picks turned into high lottery picks that sustained a Portland dynasty.

I'm curious who Dame would want to keep on the Nets to try to win now. Would he rather have Simmons or would he rather have Johnson?

I don’t think anyone wants Simmons and if we are taking him back they gotta take Nurk and give us something else.

Barnes is a good target - although I can't imagine Trent coming back here, he could easily be routed to a 3rd team though.

I don't understand why we'd want Claxton next season - I'd rather get an extra pick. He makes much more sense for Brooklyn to win now. Then Claxton will be on a huge contract so we could just sign him outright if we want, although I don't know that's the best use of cap space.

Because Dame doesn't want to go to a team that's going to be bad.

I don't know Cam Johnson matters either way, but I'm probably lower on him than most.

If they're getting Dame they need to keep all the win now players - we get their picks and youth. It makes much more sense that way for both teams. They can also give us those two guys they picked right before us last night. Actually might make the salary matching easier if we were to finalize a trade in 30 days.
