What to do... We have a $8.3 million TPE from the GP2weeks trade. We have a $2.6 million TPE from the Hart trade. They can't be combined. The Hart TPE is probably too small to make a difference. The GP2 TPE is a decent size. Who do you think we could get for that one?
Zach Collins makes 7.7 mil this coming season. I’m sure most don’t want him back but he does offer length/toughness when healthy.
With the new CBA, the trade guidelines are loosened if your team is below the tax. Going off memory: $0-$7.5M outgoing salary can take back 2x the salary. (ie - Little's $6.5m salary can bring back up-to $13m) $7.5m - $30m is a straight $7.5m buffer (ie - Nurks $16m contact can bring back up to $23.5m) >$30m is the historical 1.25x buffer. Long story short, with these changes I think the TPEs will become less valuable
I say we use the $8.3 million TPE to trade for GP2. Get the Warriors to throw in 3 or 4 2nd round draft picks.
If we keep Grant, Thybulle, and use the MLE we probably don't have room under the luxury tax. So I'd say most likely these exceptions expire worthless just as the prior years exceptions did. We pocket the cash instead. If one of those 3 are not signed perhaps this changes.
It's possible one of the teams with some cap space might want us to take one of their contracts off their hands so they can net a bigger fish. Indiana? Detroit?
They probably want Wemby to play PF until he gains more bulk. People forget Durant played SG his first year. The NBA is.very physical to new rookies.
I can already picture Cronin at a press conference awkwardly trying to explain why adding a 4th high minute PG was the right move - because he was the best asset.
