Is Ant's contract, in the new CBA, for what he provides ,really reasonable? If it is, he should be able to be traded for a player at a needed position. What really is Ant's worth around the league. I'm beginning to think only the Blazers and their fans think he's valuable.

Dame and Oubre have reportedly been good friends and Dame recruited him before. Oubre has the talent to be a backup forward or possible starter, but the problem is he does nothing to help the defense.

I really believe that the 2nd apron will dramatically change the definition of 'reasonable contract' for limited players like Ant. 26M for a player more suited to be a 6th man than starter is a luxury that may not exist any more

If Ant has no value then the Blazers probably are keeping him. I guess its possible they use his or Nurk salary in a trade for a starter, but we'd have to probably send out multiple first as well as resolve the Chicago pick. That just doesn't seem likely.

If something like that can't be done I just don't see us keeping Dame, I'm probably wrong because Joe has said big things will happen, Dame has hinted that if big things don't happen he will ask out and then nothing happens and Dame stays. That being said, I just can't imagine that the agreement that they came to in that meeting the other day was to run it back with the addition of Scoot and whatever MLE we decide to use. I guess we'll see pretty soon though.

There are plenty of execs throughout the league who don't at all believe in chemistry being an important factor in winning games. Not saying that's what's going on here, necessarily, but some purely view it as an arms race and a numbers game, others feel that balancing things like positional/play-style/strengths & weaknesses, etc. are the most important thing.

Thinking about the likelihood of any one team winning the whole thing -- where the high end, percentage-wise, might be like 8 or 9% and the low end only being, say 1%, (another way of saying regardless of what your roster looks like, there's actually a good amount of parity across the league), it's an interesting approach... Can all of those guys coexist well enough to make it work? That's been a big no for Kyrie since Cleveland...

Is Phoenix above the 2nd appron? If so they can't even give Kyrie their tax MLE. Is he going to sign for the vet minimum?

If I'm Dallas I tell him go ahead, good luck with that. Team was the 5th seed when he got there and 11th at the end of the season.

I suspect this is Durant just trying to help Kyrie negotiate for more money or more years from Dallas. If I'm Dallas I give him a one or two year deal and thats it.

The prevailing idea that Dallas is going to give Kyrie a big deal is baffling given how terrible Kyrie and Luka were the limited time they played together. Maybe the theory is that they just need time to get used to each other but that trade looked terrible for the Mavs from the moment I read about it. Just like the Wolves trading for Gobert just not quite as crazy of an overpay for Kyrie but still a terrible move as far as fit goes.

I'm trying to find in the CBA how that works. If they break the apron right now, does that immediately remove that option or do they need to break the apron this year to remove the MLE next summer?

Dallas was forced into the Kyrie trade because they realized they fucked up with Brunson and are afraid that Luka will want out. I agree that it was a stupid trade, but they were not afraid of rolling the dice. If the options are losing Luka without doing anything or losing him because they did something and it fails, the 2nd one makes more sense.

Let's hope Cronin and Dame have better communications so Dame understands why Cronin did/does what he does.

Phoenix can't do a S&T because they are over the hard-cap apron (and they don't have assets to trade).
They have the tax-MLE this season (for ~$5M), but that is the most they can offer Irving.

There's no realistic way to get Irving on the Suns before the season starts.
