Now that makes me feel good about Grant’s contract. I know Bane is pretty good but didn’t see that coming. Maybe it’s just me.

Has any player ever received a max contact without even being an all star?

pretty sure I have explained to you before that my primary criteria for gauging Ant's contract was the cap-space market last summer, when he signed, not some generic 'look at this guy' gauge. There were no teams last summer that were going to give Ant 18M/year, not to mention 25M/year (IIRC, only 4 teams had more than 20M in cap-space)

if you want me to change my mind on Ant's contract, change Ant's ability to play defense...and maybe help him grow 3 inches

    Nope.

Would have to have some tough conversations.

    That's paycheck-to-paycheck.

    Such a struggle.

if you made $73,000 a year, it would only take you 1000 year to earn 73M. That would be quite a grind. But you would have a lot of sick leave built up

Considering the guys they let go today (or yesterday?) and not signing any new guys yet today, my guess is that Cronin is working on something big. Possibly has to wait to see what team got left out in free agency bidding and also where Harden goes and who he gets traded for. If somehow things go well, then I think there might be a good trade that might make us happy. If things don't go well, then the team will probably look much the same and they will pick up a few minimum players to fill out the roster. And then try again at the trade deadline....

KAT I could stomach (even though I hate the contact) but we better not be making a play for PG or Harden.

LMAO been hearing this for 2 years ever since the Clippers trade was announced.

Cronin is a more conservative Olshey with a bigger love of short guards. I'll give it to him he is quite good at tanking though.

as time goes on, obviously Ant's contract will look 'better' when compared to many of the newer deals. The salary cap is 34% larger now than when Ant entered the league. Ant's first year salary as a 24th pick was 1.8M. Kris Murray's 1st year salary as a 23rd pick will be close to 3M.

Ant can do some things at a pretty decent level, but he does have some major limitations. To my eyes, and to many other's, Ant ideal role is as a 6th man where defense isn't critical; or maybe as a 3rd-4th option as a PG on teams that have solid facilitators in the front court (like Toronto). His 26M/year salary is starter money though, and he's an awkward fit on most starting units, especially one with Dame (& Scoot)
