There is talk of the Mavericks wanting Matisse Thybulle. Personally I would keep him if I was POR Brass but who knows if they will. Dallas would have to make him a huge offer that we don't want to match because he is a RFA. Or the Trail Blazers could sign and trade him. I wouldn't but they might.

I suspect it's primarily for Jody to save $. Blazers want to see how far under the luxury tax the team is after a Dame trade and potential Thybulle deal. If there is no room they dont use MLE.

I thought the MLE flexibility to use as a TPE starts next summer in 2024.

Good value but redundant with who we expect to acquire by sending out Dame and who all we got in the draft.

But they could be flipped. That’s the name of the game right now. Maximizing every drop of value. This is why Neil fucked us so badly in 2016. He got zero value for LMA. He traded Batum for garbage. He let Wes walk. Instead of getting value to help rebuild around Dame, the mother fucker basically turned us into a fucking expansion team.

Dame tried to kill it... but it might pick back up after he's traded.

Since we are likely be in good Lottery range again, why not? If we are trying to win, no.

Believe I read Mavs are limited to something close to 4 yr/32-33 mil offer, not sure what we were hoping to pay

Thybulle may get more than what Portland will want to offer.

    1. From an article on worst free agent signings.
      Contract: 5 years, $160 million

It says a lot about Jerami Grant's contract that the most impassioned defenses of the Portland Trail Blazers' logic read something like, "it's not actually that bad."

There is value in weighing this money against a rising salary cap. The final year of the 29-year-old's deal will pay him $36.4 million. That's about 22.1 percent of the projected 2026-27 salary cap, which could feasibly—if unlikely—come in noticeably higher once the league brokers its next TV deal.

Paying 20-ish percent of the cap for a non-star is fine if you're a contender, or if you're on the verge of becoming one. The Blazers are neither, and that was true before the Damian Lillard trade request.

Maybe suitors treat this as a net-positive deal around the 2024 trade deadline. Grant just averaged over 20 points while downing 40-plus percent of his threes, and he continues to play rock-solid defense. But the back end of this contract figures to be scary.

The Syracuse product will turn 33 in its final season, and his effectiveness remains someone reliant on athleticism. And for all the (deserved) acclaim he's received for expanding his offensive agency, Grant is still best suited as a third or fourth option.

To be frank, it's awfully difficult to figure out who you want to sign when you don't know what's coming back for Dame.

Yup. I'm under the assumption that you're getting Caleb Martin back. If no veteran SF is coming back, we should try to keep Matisse.

We'll more than likely have to waive some players since we won't have enough roster spots in a big deal.
