I don't assign much value, at all, to pick swaps for a team like Portland. At least not over the next 3-4 years. Contrary to the prevailing optimism, I think it's going to be a few seasons before the Blazers are a +.500 team. A pick swap with Miami or Brooklyn in 2025 just won't be exercised. Now, a pick swap with Miami in 2029 is a different matter, especially if it's unprotected

New Orleans had a swap with the Lakers this draft, and it wasn't exercised; they have one with the Bucks next season that will almost certainly not be exercised. OKC had swap right with the Clippers this year and it wasn't exercised.

one positive aspect of the Blazers apparently talking to Miami and Brookln about a Dame trade is that the draft assets those two teams have are mostly 4-7 years out. That offer the potential that those teams could be shitty by then. They aren't shitty now

So no one wants Simmons fine, they get Lowry (expiring contract and they have a ton of those) and only have to give up one first PHX 2025 no protections and get rid of Ben. The Spurs give up two future firsts from ATL 2025 and 2027 no protections and the expiring contract of Dougie McBuckets in exchange for Herro. The Heat give up Herro, Lowry, Jovic, Jaquez and two future firsts of their own MIA 2028 and 2030 no protections. We end up giving up Dame and Nurk and getting 5 unprotected future firsts, Jaquez, Jovic, take Simmons and the expiring contract of McDermott. This trade would be completed on July 31st and we would have Miami shut down Jaquez and Jovic for the rest of Summer League.

Agree that swaps in the near term are of little value, but not "no value". That's why in the "3rd party" thread I looked mostly outside of the 2024/25 draft classes. But we are (luckily?) at the point where we probably don't need to swing for high lotto fences, especially in the next two semi-paltry drafts (though I think they're going to be better than many do, especially with all the upperclassmen who didn't come out this year precisely because next year was supposed to suck so badly) to get to our rebuild foundation. I'm not sure, even with 2-3 drafts between them, that HOU and DET are there.

I would really hold out for Martin over Jaquez, plus pick swaps in 27 and 29. I have a hard time believing Spurs would give up 2 1sts for Herro. Otherwise, I like this deal.

Blazers can't swap their 2027 first because of Bulls. Well, I guess it could be a contingent swap if the Blazers were in the lottery, but that wouldn't make sense

Is anyone actually confident we could even get Martin from Pat in a move for Dame? Martin, Jovic, Herro, salaries and 3 1sts are what I would expect for Dame. Hold firm on getting Martin from them.

I don't view Martin as being as consequential to our rebuild as you do... I'd rather have Jaquez and I think the Heat would rather have Martin. Also in order to get us three firsts the Heat would have to reach an agreement with the Thunder to change the protections they have on the first the Thunder are owed. Herro also needs to be flipped we obviously don't need another guard as one of our most valuable assets.

Does he play defense? He could be a OKC Jalen-Williams type of player.

He sets good screens I know that. Fucking sucks they already signed him. I really believe him and Jovic should be in any deal.
