I would bet serious money on two things:
    1. We won't walk away from the RIDICULOUS Grant contract just because we only did it to please Dame (even though we never attract free agents, reneging would piss off our OWN players)
    2. Jerami will be traded by (and probably at) the trade deadline this coming season.

But why wait? I'd actually love it if we traded Grant before Dame. And actually, I think it will be easier, in part because we don't expect anything back except a trade exception/expiring contracts and maybe a second-rounder. The bonus is that the team acquiring Jerami might convince themselves that it gives them a better shot to get Dame.

    With that in mind, suggestions?
Brooklyn: Ben Simmons for Jerami. Not popular on this forum, I bet, but Simmons actually fills more needs than Grant, primarily rebounding. And he won't stop the ball like Grant has a tendency to. Brooklyn might even give us a pick or two!

San Antonio: Doug McDermott (expiring $14M) - this gives us about a $14M trade exception. San Antone better throw in a pick, too.

Miami: Kyle Lowry (expiring, $29M) - here's your vet to tutor the young guys - with a ring, too! Plus it makes it harder for them to get Dame.

    Other suggestions?

I like Cleveland. Send him over there for Jarrett Allen (assuming we don't get Claxton)

Forgot the Clippers. Ballmer wouldn't bat an eye at Jerami's ridiculous contract. Only barrier is they're saving their expirings for Harden. Assuming Morey cockblocks them, Grant might be a consolation prize. Plus we could get Batum back to be Rayan's mentor!

Cronin needs starters who look forward to their early vacation so the Blazers can tank for picks.

    Anfernee Simons ✓
    Jusuf Nurkic ✓
    Jerami Grant
    Matisse Thybulle ?? sure! ✓

Jerami would have to give up the fifth year of that deal for it to be S&T eligible. I honestly think you're right that he will be traded at the deadline and it will be to a team that needs a player to get them over the hump from being a pretender to a contender.

I would take Simmons and two picks or Simmons and one of the Nets unsigned rookies and a pick or something like that. I just don't think Jerami will walk away from that fifth year and it has already been reported that we intend to honor that contract offer.

Miami does not have enough picks to give us for Dame, let alone Grant. But I do think Grant might reconsider getting his 5th year if he can go to the team of his choice. Not sure what we could get in return.

Not having to pay Grant is return enough

yeah, I would not expect a huge return, just a 1st round pick. But I guess we might have to take salary back. SA would be my choice

S&T is dead because of the 5th year. Grant wants that extra year.

So the question becomes who we can trade him for in January...

Boston for Horford & Robert Williams
Cavs for Allen (I think this is most likely)
    Dallas for Hardaway + Lively
    Indiana for Turner
Toronto for Siakam (if it's clear he will not resign)
    Utah for Collins

Allen would be an absolute steal. Think CLE would do that too.

If we're getting a haul from the Dame trade, can we package some of it with Grant to get Mobley instead, please? ;)

We gave up a future first and a second for Grant when Grant was on a much cheaper deal and hadn't been hurt for a third year in a row.

It seems absolutely crazy to think we'd get the same return when trying to trade him, and it would be malpractice for any of those teams to make the above deals given his contract.

I saw a list of all signed free agents so far, and the total was $1.9b. Grant was responsible for just under 8% OF THE WHOLE SPENT MONEY IN THE NBA in free agency this summer. It's a terrible contract that is out of touch with the rest of the league in terms of years and overall money. That another team would pay us anything substantial for the privilege of taking on that contract on a dude who's started 178 games in the last four seasons... I just don't see it.

salary floor, the Blazers have to spend big money on real NBA players. Giving Jerami a fat bag is important moving forward. A veteran that's happy to be a Blazer! Grant is set for 5 years, he won't freak out if the team lose a bunch of games. Coach Billups can focus on training the "experienced, not normal, played against men"' rookies. Chauncey won't worry about his starting forward getting grumpy and ask for a trade to a better team.

There are 160 million reasons why it's important for Jerami Grant to be a Blazer.

Grant is gonna get a million touches. Just trade him during the season when his stats are inflated.

Smart man. Grant spent a good stretch being the best third option in the league. He’s going to get interest from another team.

I’m not really interested in tanking. Play to win games 1) to give Scoot and Sharpe real experience playing in games that matter and 2) to build Ant and Grant’s trade value.

With Ant/Scoot, Sharpe, maybe Martin, and Grant, offense will continue to be top 10 in the league imo. I think Grant’s shooting is sustainable, and he can go back to just being a help defender who can play passing lanes. I wonder if Grant at a higher value could get us 1 1st and a young long term piece if we take on a big contract for two years.

So, Heat Culture is about pumping up a bunch of undrafted unknowns to make it to the NBA finals and Blazer Culture is to tank before a game is played? Nice. Welcome to Portland boys.

So many suggestions in this thread aren't possible. Any team acquiring Grant in a sign and trade needs a salary around the luxury tax because they'd be hard capped. Clippers, Brooklyn, Miami, etc are all impossible.

As CJisGone posts Grant also can't get a 5th year, so this is likely dead.

I'd expect the Blazers explore Grant trades by the deadline, yes Allen in Cleveland could make sense. But a lot of contenders could get desperate as well. Main thing is for Grant to stay healthy and shoot efficiently.
