Hopefully Brooklyn is taking this stance because they want Dame themselves.
Theres a rumor that Ntes have a nice package on the tables.

Of course they want to be compensated. I daresay that Dame wants to go to MIA and Riley wants to get him without giving up much in return. But want =/= get... good job asking, though.

They can do better. I’d want Clowney at least.

That's what I keep saying. what good does it do to include a third team if Miami just doesn't have the assets?

The Blazers could have a 2027 contingent swap based on the Blazers yes being in the lottery or making the playoffs in any of 2024, 2025, or 2026.

In other words the only way a Blazers Miami contingent 2027 swap would not be available was if the Blazers missed the playoffs for all of 2024, 2025, and 2026; then made the playoffs in 2027. That exact outcome seems unlikely, so a 2027 contingent pick swap would still likely have little reduction in value even though its contingent.

If a Miami trade is a 3way and the Blazers get an unprotected 2027 first from for example SAS or BRK then the swap could be guaranteed as well as the Blazers retaining the best pick(s).

For example if its the Phoenix 2027 pick, the Blazers could get the best two of Phoenix, Miami, PDX picks, or if the Blazers pick has the unlikely outcome in 2027 of going to Chicago, then PDX gets just the best of Phoenix/Miami.

I've been replaying this since Friday in my head...

Riley: "You can have anything and everything on our roster except Bam and Jimmy."
Cronin & Team: (checks MIA roster)
Cronin: "Thanks Pat...I'mma call BKN and BOS real quick."

It seems like, that for all the talk out of Miami that Herro is this amazing young player, they sure are having difficulty getting rid of him and may have to actually PAY to do so. What an absolute joke.

Pat Riley's age is a MAJOR component in all this. The Blazers must hold until we get a real offer

Martin has a ton of value, he's a legit two way starter making $6 million for the next two years.

His value is more as a trade piece than directly playing for the Blazers on a rebuild. I wouldn't be surprised if a contender that has an injury or something at the deadline gives the Blazers two future firsts for Martin.

Which isn’t at all surprising because nobody wants Simons.

Yeah, I suggested who was available instead of someone who wasn't. Beverly could be a good fit actually.

    Here is another scenario I'll list, starting with the addition picks;

4 First round picks unprotected (2028 Miami, 2030 Miami, 2027 Phx from Brooklyn, 2024 Miami*)
3 second round picks - 2026 2029 2030 from Miami (not pictured below)
2 pick swaps unprotected (2027 and 2029 from Miami)

    upload_2023-7-4_21-2-6.png

    - Jaquez can't be traded for 30 days so this trade can be agreed to in principle then officially get completed July 31st
    - Caleb Martin likely goes to a 3rd team contender in this trade, later in the summer, or by the deadline for 1-2 first round picks.
    - The Dinwiddle-Lowry PG swap is done primarily to match $$$ so nobody has to take on Duncan Robinsons contract and Miami is still below the 2nd apron. There are alternatives such as Lowry going to PDX instead for Nurk and Little.
    - If Brooklyn doesn't want this type of deal Mia/PDX can shop other 3rd teams such as the Spurs. The Blazers getting a 2027 first from the 3rd team allows them to guarantee the availability of the 2027 pick swap with Miami.
    - Blazers would be a bit closer to the tax line with this deal depending on how Grants contract is structured or Thybulle being resigned. If a bit more luxury tax room is needed the Blazers could get Martin sent out to a trade exception or send out Little/Keon in this trade.
    - There is huge value in owning Miami draft equity unprotected all four years of 2027-2030. Once Dame and Butler decline that franchise could start panicking since they don't have control of any first round picks leading to more win now moves which sort of makes a self fulfilling prophecy of them eventually going deep into the lottery.
*Miami 2024 pick would be freed to trade if OKC accepts modification of their 2025 protected pick they are owed from Miami which is delayed until 2026 if not conveyed in 2025. OKC could be given unprotected 2026 pick instead and that would free up Miami to give the Blazers their 2024 pick. In theory OKC should have to give up value for this benefit, such as a second round pick going to Portland

Replaced Dinwiddle from Brooklyn with Nurk/Little/Keon. Rosters balance better with Portland and Brooklyn only taking on 1 player each and Miami losing two. Simpler way of viewing the deal without OKC - although if they aren't involved that 2024 first needs to be removed. Also removed swaps just so its easier to visualize. If I'm Cronin I insist on keeping swaps/2nd in this deal

I don't understand why this is so hard for the Heat to find a 3rd team to make this trade happen asap. Im under the impression from the NBA fans on the internet that making trades happen is super easy.

I cannot tell you HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS. So, Tyler Herro went from being the "centerpiece" of a trade for Dame to having negative value? Fantastic!

If we can create a bidding war between powers in the East (Miami, Brooklyn, Philly, Boston, etc.) over Dame, we could SERIOUSLY cash in. We just need to be patient.

I’d take Clowney and Whitehead instead of Claxton.

He’s most likely going to Miami.
