Who has handled this the right way so far? I go with Joe all day long. His only comment since this trade stuff has basically been "Dame has notified that he wants out, we want Dame to be here and we are going to do what's best for the Portland Trailblazers" Whether coach speak or not, it's sweet and simple. No mudslinging and to the point. Since them we have all of these leaks from Dames camp, whether directly from him or not that are trying to pit the world against the Blazers. If this ends up happening and all parties end up happy, this will set a precedent. Joe could turn a big corner as a GM and this franchise can absolutely take a resounding step forward. Just think, it could all be due to Dame and not being a part of the team. I don't know what the end result will be and will probably get shit from the board police but wanted a clean thread just on the topic in the subject line.
I’m Team Joe. Dame has been classless throughout this whole ordeal. I’m so disappointed in him. I enjoyed watching him play basketball and I thought he was different. Nope. Just out for himself in the end. Does he even give a shit about us fans?
I think Joe has done everything he could do, within reason. Multiples report have stated that he did try to make trades to appease Dame. Only so much you can do.
Team Joe as well. Dame's true colors appear to be coming through (not pretty), he and his "team" are handling this badly. I have several adjectives I'd could easily add but I'll take the Cronin approach.
"The Cronin Approach" that's catchy. Could be on to something there depending on how this shitstorm finishes up
Joe's approach seems better from a PR perspective. We'll see how the trade ends up and then I'll say who "won"
Dame trying to put pressure on the team with the "Miami or else" ultimatums his camp keeps leaking is objectively a bitch move. So I think Team Joe is clearly handling it more professionally so far. And whether we like it or not, Team Joe is Team Portland at this point so we have no choice but to be on his side here. I couldn't really care less if Dame gets to go where he wants if it means us building a better future.
Yeah, isn't it ironic he signs that huge 2 yr extension a year ago, can't be traded until July 10, and just days ago the I want out talk happens - I SEE YOU DAME
I think they're both handling this the right way for them... until we hear a report that says that Dame's agent told a team that he wouldn't report and that's why a reported trade fell apart, I think Dame is just trying to leverage his way to the place he wants to be. Joe is standing his ground. Both are acting in their best interests as you should in a business deal. The OP is incorrect because Joe has released a lot of stuff besides the official press release. Joe has said all options are on the table, he definitely has Woj carrying water for him as well. Dame at the same time has not made any public statement but does have a lot more people carrying water for him. It is hard to tell how many people are carrying water for Dame and how many of those got their marching orders from Riley but definitely more "Dame only to the Heat" propaganda than "Portland has the power in this situation" propaganda. So if propaganda turns you off then Dame is losing but I would say it is hard to delineate Dame's camp's propaganda and that coming from the Heat and it's obvious when it's coming from our team... and while it's not close to Dame plus the Heat there is still a lot of shit coming out of our team and there should be.
That's what I have been wondering about.... He also started his campaign to put Joe in a corner almost immediately after the season ended and even joked about where he'd want to go. It kinda feels like he set Joe up to fail and then put himself into a position to ask out without looking like the bad guy.
Let's not pretend like we didn't use every pick we had in that draft on rookies, the highest one on a PG after Dame said going young is not the way he is going. If Joe would have pulled one all star in via trade, Dame wouldn't have asked out... plain and simple. He could have asked out at any point in the last five years that the national media has been saying he should but he didn't. Trying to boil it down to him just trying to get paid and bouncing is silly.
Tough call really Dame COULD HAVE added more teams with a wink wink on where he really wanted to go Joe COUKD HAVE over paid for a vet that might have appeased Dame
Sigh. People are not really getting this at all. This has almost nothing to do with Dame. It's Joe Cronin vs. Aaron Goodwin's Agency, which has a lot more experience than JoeCro. JoeCro has to drag this thing out as long as possible. https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/479463b0-344b-4f0e-a64d-85438fbaa08d
I wish Joe was more aggressive. Play Riley through the media - make it abundantly clear that they simply don’t have the assets. Miami pundits have totally shaped the narrative that Dame to Miami is a lock.
I am with Joe for the most part. I think he did the best he could to find Dame some vet pieces to grant his wishes if you will for a more veteran team, but he was not going to let us get ripped off then and that will be the same, now. I don't wish ill on Dame of course but the sooner he is gone the better for us honest tbh; we can then start focusing on who will actually lace them up for us this season.
I mean the question is framed in a weird way but ask yourself who has done more for this team and it's a pretty easy answer. Now if Scoot and Shae end up leading us to a championship then the whole thing gets flipped but so far Joe has said one thing and done another a few times and Dame was pretty damn consistent for over a decade. I guess people have short memories and fragile hearts.
