What is that supposed to mean? It was all a ruse to suck everybody in? Dame spent 11 years cultivating a heroic perception only to reveal himself at the very end? I don't buy it. Things like this don't happen in a vacuum. You aren't privy to every piece of information. People can be stubborn, selfish, and obsessive about certain ideas(God, race, gender, honor, tradition, respect, modesty) yet can be functionally logical/benevolent in most other respects. Every person has made a selfish decision or three.
Your true character is revealed in times of adversity, difficult situations, setbacks, or failures. I’m not saying Dame is a bad person, I’m saying I don’t think he was/is this loyal to the soul angel some thought he was. I think we need to remember just how much money he made by staying here. Not saying he’s in the wrong, just my opinion.
Seriously I might kind of lose respect for him if he was. He had an identity before he was drafted by Portland. He was not subsumed by this organization (which is not exactly the best-run in any case). This is not post-war Japan and he's not a salaryman. That said, fuck that guy.
