It doesn't mean they should have. Some people obviously lack respect, it doesn't mean everyone should.

It means everyone is curious. This will not change. Dame doesn't need protection. He can literally hire the Pinkertons to beat us all up individually if he's so inclined, and still have $249,000,000 left over.

Now, if you say it'll affect the trade, then we can discuss it.

There is a difference in EVERYTHING we post. If you don't want to talk about it: cool.

If you don't want to talk about trade rumors (which are also not "known fact"): cool.

Unless I'm missing something, there's no rule against "besmirching" a public figure on this site (that's a judgment call, in any event, the same way saying a free agent doesn't like the city of Portland is). That you think there should be is just dandy, but (again, show me the rule if it's there) that doesn't make it so. And I don't think telling adults to "show respect" is helpful or fair.

I want to start off by saying I am sorry -- this whole situation has brought out the worst in me cause I am a HUGE Dame fan and to see some fans turn on Dame just made me a man on fire and I got a little out of control. I have already said this at least a couple times but will say it again and that is i am not upset at fans who like Dame but just think it's time to move on. However I am pissed with the fans who have turned on Dame and made him into the bad guy and now take every chance it seems to bash him after everything he did for this team in his 11 seasons as a Blazer. When I saw that it made me furious and I took it out on those doing the trashing and while maybe they deserve some of the what I said I do know I should have brought it back at some point and just let it go. It's for this reason I plan on giving myself a timeout from this forum for at least a week unless a Dame trade happens or some real legit news breaks then I might make a comment but unless that happens this will be my last post for a week starting today til Sun the 23rd.

I really hope the mods get control of this forum cause it has gotten out of control and I do take some blame but they need to try and stop some of the trolling and Dame hate cause it has gotten out of control. I am not trying to tell you how to do your job well maybe a little but it's done as my observation on how the Dame situation has brought out the worst in this forum. I wish everyone the best and will be back soon and GO BLAZERS

There is a big difference between talking about players not wanting to come here and talking about their marriage. I'm not gonna talk about his marriage. I have more respect than that. You do you.

Some of you are pretty hardcore about the blazers, do you guys have NFL and MLB teams too? Just curious if this is just 1/3 of your board postings per day? Thank god I have my Braves considering the Blazers and Raiders are pretty much dumpster fires at the moment.

Reporting specific posts help a lot. We have a mini forum-type thingie where mods can discuss what should be edited, etc., after posts are reported.

And, at least to me, it comes down to specifics. I don't see "Dame hate" much at all but I admit I don't read every word of every post every day, so reporting helps (at least me, and I know most of the mods) pay attention. Reporting won't guarantee that something will be edited (as sometimes we get kinda crazy/spurious reports) but it will help ensure that your concerns are heard because that's important.

The only reason why I think it’s relevant is because Dame has seemingly completely changed over night. 10 years of this dude acting one way and now suddenly it’s like he’s a different dude. So you can’t blame fans for wondering what’s going on. I think part of it is that he lost 8 family members in 18 months. But if the rumors are true about his marriage, that can also be a significant sign of change in him.

I follow Ducks football pretty closely and post on On3 sometimes (although there's not a lot going on there at present)... that and fantasy football is what I pay attention to in the sports world :)

In any discussion about besmirching people, it is essential to consider the impact of our words and actions on others. Besmirching, which involves making damaging or false statements to tarnish someone's reputation, is generally not considered acceptable behavior in civil discourse.

Respecting the dignity and privacy of individuals is a fundamental principle of ethical communication. Sharing personal information, spreading rumors, or making hurtful comments about others, even in a satirical manner, can lead to significant harm and distress. As responsible individuals, we should strive to cultivate a culture of empathy, understanding, and mutual respect. Engaging in besmirching can contribute to a toxic environment, erode trust, and harm relationships. Instead, we should focus on fostering open and constructive dialogue where differing opinions can be expressed without resorting to personal attacks or denigration.

In the specific case of refraining from posting about certain issues in the Blazers locker room, I have shown incredible restraint.

As examples, I haven't ever posted about Jusuf Nurkic's hemorrhoids after eating too much Bae's chicken, Nassir Little's weird fascination with mukbang of old people eating pudding, or Chauncey Billups habitually heating up fish in the microwave at the practice facility.

I get it. It just get ridiculous when people are running with things that aren't even backed up by facts. This is supposed to be a basketball forum, not the National Enquirer.

Hard to have facts on this kind of thing. Just a lot of smoke. Not really factual until he and his wife publicly split and/or get a divorce.

    ^^^

    This.

While I am sure part of the reason dame is asking out is partially about not getting the supporting cast he thinks he needs, i think the more this drags on and the little tidbits of how dame says things, doesnt show his wife or how she disappeared from social or how coaches and or reporters have said things about him losing half his money and that not all decisions are basketball decisions. It's not hard to tell that something is going on with his life. And whatever it is has him dead set on Miami. I don't think people want to talk about his marriage, but people want to know why he inherently flipped on a dime, and people are people and they are going to speculate and read in between the lines even if it isnt necessarily PC.

If someone says something incorrect? Let's correct it. Or discard it, as lacking evidence. I'm not, for the record, saying anyone should make stuff up nor that it's good for society (generally or ours).

But this is a sports site. It's not a global endeavor to make the world a kinder, gentler place. We talk about players that make millions of dollars playing a game that use vital public resources and redistribute wealth regressively. We treat players and draft picks like chess pieces on a daily basis. None of that is nice or helpful to anyone in a real sense. We have limited limitations, though, like we don't allow (or try not to) personal attacks on posters. We don't allow lots of bad "-ist" and "-ism" stuff.

Personally, I rarely think I know what a player is thinking or motivated by, and I don't enjoy people acting like they do... but that doesn't mean that I lecture people for being mind readers (or at least not very harshly). I totally respect that you don't comment on locker room issues--I would be delighted if no one ever posted on it, as I pretty much only care about what happens on the court, and I trust coaches and management to figure out the rest of the stuff. But that doesn't mean you can't or should not be able to do so.
