Seriously Dame for Hero, Robinson, 2FRPs Is the same as Nurk Nas Keon for Bam Heat are trash without Dame. They were we lucky last year. They don't have Vincent and Strus anymore. Jimmy is older and declining and Bam is not Jokic. They are desperate. They need to pay up for Dame if they want him.
No amount of maneuvering will allow them to pay what Dame is worth. Unless they include Bam, which they won't.
Ok, but why would Phoenix trade Ayton a position of need, for Little and I'm not sure what a "#1 protected top 7 pic" is. Does this mean we protect a pick for the top 7? Any way you slice it why on Earth would Phoenix do that?
Wow...just look at this moron. Nothing about this take makes any sense at all. I'm now firmly on the "Lillard to anywhere but Miami" train. Fuck Riley, fuck Goodwin, fuck their fans, fuck their hot takes and fuck their organization. I hope they crater next year.
Portland is "Boxed in?" Do any of these people know that Lillard has 3/4 years left on his contract? They don't seem to acknowledge that important fact.
Phoenix needs to move Ayton to avoid the 2nd apron tax. I doubt he's coming to Portland because Chauncey only likes coaching guards.
One thing to consider, is that Simons is ranked as one of the worst defenders in the NBA, but Herro is pretty much average. A 3 guard rotation of Herro/Henderson/Sharpe might be better than Simons/Sharpe/Henderson. Would Simons be easier to trade with 1 less year on his deal and slightly lower figures? If you're doing a 3 guard rotation, having a guy like Herro is not excess.
I have a strong suspicion that Herro's average defensive rating and Simons's horrific defensive rating are heavily indebted to the quality of their teams' defense and the systems in which they play.
That's a fair point. I am not sure that trade is good enough, but hell I'd love Ayton and with Dame/Nurk on their way out we could afford him.
defensive rating: * Herro was 1.7 points worse than his team; Ant was 4.2 points worse than his team DBPM: * Herro had a DBPM of -0.8; Ant had one of -2.5 Estimated +/- on defense: * Herro -0.7; Ant -1.0 pretty clearly, statistically and by eyeball, Herro is poor at defense. But as bad as he is, he's still a lot better than Simons. Herro is actually able to be a net positive in BPM at +0.6. By contrast, Ant gives more back on defense than he provides on offense which led to his -1.1 BPM last season and -1.8 for his career in net rating differential, Herro was a -6.0. Simons was a -10.0. Herro is a year younger with one less year of experience what it all means is that the Blazers would be best off not having either player
This is where I’m landing. Herro nets at most a meh player and a first. Martin is worth a first, more likely two seconds and filler. And then Miami would keep one of the firsts just to free up their own. The fact that you can build a plausible and better package with most other team’s rosters tells you how bad this one is.
defensive ratings are more team-centric and it's not worthwhile to compare the raw rating of players on different teams. What is a worthwhile gauge is to compare a player's defensive rating to his team. Herro is -1.7 points worse than his team; that's not good. But Ant is -4.2 points worse than his team. That's rather horrible
And Herro playing on a good defensive team vs Simons on a bad defensive team makes that stat look even better for Herro no?
I think the conference they play in factors in as well...the east and west have vastly different levels of talent to defend at their position. Herro has such a short wingspan
Even then such comparisons are heavily influenced by lineups, rotations, etc. There is just so much noise in individual defensive statistics as they are currently constructed. It's quite possible that Herro is a better defender with Miami than Ant is with the Blazers... that said, I have a really hard time believing, admittedly based on the little I've seen of Herro over the years, that he would be an appreciable upgrade over Ant on defense for the Blazers.
In which case, do not trade Dame to Miami. At that point, Dame can either react this way: "Wah wah you owe it to me to accept Miami's offer." And Joe shall respond: "Expand your list or honor your contract. We will ONLY trade you if/when the return makes sense for us. Otherwise, you're a Blazer." Dame is smart enough to understand this. We can do way better than Herro, Robinson, 2FRPs. Somewhere between Mitchell and Durant is the sweet spot. I understand that by waiting we risk Dame value going down as he is coming off his best year. But selling him cheap is not the solution. Let's say Dame is worth one dollar now. You worry that if we don't trade him now his value will go to 75 cents. But selling him now for 50 cents is not the answer.
I wonder if at some point Joe might need to call their bluff and act like bringing Dame back is an option if Miami thinks they are bidding against themselves. Start promoting Sharpe as our SF next year. Not saying I want that but start floating it none-the-less Yes, this line-up is too small but we still have the MLE...get a big Dame-Scoot Thybulle-Simons Sharpe-Little Grant-Walker Nurk-Badji Murray, Rupert, Butler, Keon
Well done, appreciate the informative post. A few tips, try to get it to provide some really weird off the wall examples (ancient historical, pro wrestling, clear satire).
