Houston getting Udoka, Vanvleet, Brooks is a sign they're tired of losing and maybe wanna taste the playoffs again From the Blazers perspective, I'd consider it
I like the idea of Brown to Houston and their stuff to POR. Still not clear what is going on with Boston though.
Boston would also need to send us another contract like Horford, and Houston would probably need to send us Kevin Porter
Lately the "pick swaps" have been more and more included in the crappy package the Heat would send to Portland. But except for making the list of "assets" longer, what a 2024 pick bring to us? Absolutely nothing, Same for 2026 with Dame still in a somewhat prime + Bam and Butler still under contract. If we are able to see this, I know that Joe can too. So I won't fall for this 10 items shopping list with 8 crappy stuffs
Brown is not 25. He turns 27 in a few months when the season starts. He's closer to Dames age than Scoot. With a game reliant on athleticism I don't expect him to age super well. His timeline matches up much closer to Dame, who should age well with his shooting, than Scoot. Brown will probably still be effective for his next contract. But towards the end of that deal he probably will be where Paul George is now where you don't really want to be giving him another big long deal. If we were trying to win with him now that'd be great. But we might be 5 years away or even longer if this rebuild doesn't work.
Only if you're trying to tank forever in a "process". If not, swapping (or even trading your picks for other franchises' potentially inferior ones) can work, especially if you think you're able to develop young players (and a small market team better be able to. That's one of the more significant failings of the Olshey regime--of which there are legion--but trading away picks for vets and hoping they both a) work and b) re-sign with the team) hamstrung POR for most of a decade).
If Giannis doesn't break his back and MIA loses in the first round, are we even discussing this trade right now?
They don't exist! If there's presumably 'no other suitors' for a top 75 player, why would there be meaningful (read: put assets on the table) suitors for Herro?
Those Miami unprotected picks in 2028 and 2030 along with a 2029 swap could be a gold mine. This talk of "they will only be late picks" etc is very shortsighted. Jimmy Butler turns 34 in September. Will he still be an elite player, or even in the league at the age of 39, 40 and 41? Damian Lillard is 33. Will he likewise be an elite player at 38, 39, and 40? Pat Riley is 78 today. When he's 83, 84, and 85 do you really think he'll still be a shrewd executive? The Heat will be in the luxury tax for the years ahead with little way to add or develop young talent to the roster. Not adding young talent will push them to the bottom of the standing as their stars decline. Look at the last two veterans the Blazers traded away for unprotected picks - Telfair was traded for a single Boston pick - that became Brandon Roy. Gerald Wallace was traded for a single Nets pick, that became Damian Lillard. Have 3-4+ of those picks could end up being one of the greatest asset returns in the history of Blazer trades!
Getting 3-4 picks 5,6,7 years from now does not guarantee that two of them will be lottery, let alone top 7 And even if you get top 7s, chances are low you draft Brandon Roy and Damian Lillard And even if you draft Brandon Roy and Damian Lillard, there's no guarantee you are still the GM, esp is you lose Shae and/or Scoot by then That is why it is important to get a piece or two now in any Dame trade that compliments Shae and Scoot, in addition to future draft capital
I agree. I think we've spent enough time in the kiddie pool and it's time to add a few veterans to the mix. The notion of continual dives into the lottery so that you fill up the roster with young guys "on the same timeline" just assures that nobody on the roster knows how to play NBA basketball until they're 5 or 6 years in and ready to try to force their way to a team that knows what the heck they're doing.
I thought he was 25, my bad time flies! All the more reason to trade him to Houston or onward elsewhere and get more young bucks and 1sts. Btw I'd ask BOS for a first along with Brown, Dame is that much better IMO.
I don't trust any pick swaps with Miami. They have the ability to rebuild via free agency. They can get below the cap and then grab a difference-maker without giving up assets. I would have to assume they will rebuild on the fly.
I was like holy shit Giannis broke his back how did I not hear that? I didn't hear it because it's false. Damn dude, dial back on the hyperbole, and this is coming from me! https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba...ry-update-bucks-heat/ajwxlmqq3ezhtkjmb3ekxq2j
