If Dame has to stay in Portland, I'd bet the next move the team makes is to announce a max deal for Houston Lillard...and a 2 way for Keljin.
Hot take: Miami promised Dame they'd trade for him. After watching Jovic and Jaquez in summer league, they changed their minds. They don't really wanna do the trade anymore, hence the pupu platter offer
Lol Haynes doesn't understand how negotiation works. For the first time, I'm fully applauding Joe's approach here. Kick rocks, Riley.
I mean, if Portland were to say "exactly what they want", wouldn't that basically be "every pick you own, Jaquez, Jovic, Martin, and whatever assets you can get from other teams in Herro and Robinson trades"? Would that list honestly make it easier for Miami to figure out what they're willing to offer?
We have said what we want-- Bam. As well as the "best offer." Cronin has also outlined what he's looking for in terms of young players and picks. It's clear from me that the offer Miami is making now isn't even a good starting point.
When you have a commodity you don't really want to lose that another party wants desperately, you ask them for their best offer. Then afterwards, you decide if that offer is even amenable to what you feel is worthy. You don't go telling them exactly what you want specifically -- rather you extract every single piece they're going to give up. Haynes isn't even hiding that he is speaking for Miami here either which is both hilarious and sad at the same time.
So let me see if i understand this correctly, Haynes and Miami expect us to wipe their collective asses for them while they are taking a shit? You can't make this crap up
Portland should tell Miami who they want in return for Herro. The whole deal IMO hinges on that. However, the one problem I see from that is if someone like Haynes leaks it, and the 3rd team knows how desperately we want their player......the price then goes up. For example, if Portland were to say "We need Simmons in return instead of Herro".....what do you think the Nets are going to do? A pick or young player that would have gone to Portland, will then be redirected to Brooklyn. I actually would be ok with giving up more if the player we get is worth it. But from a negotiating standpoint, it would be best if no one knew how badly we wanted the player.
IMHO- We don't want any trade from Miami. Everything is lip service. Joe is holding firm and Dame will either be a Blazer or shipped somewhere else. Dame and Co. made their play, it didn't work.
I would certainly prefer cutting Miami out of it, but if they can deliver the player we want from a 3rd team.....I am ok with it.
I would do this, I don't know if Brooklyn would but they'd have to entertain the idea. That being said if I was Brooklyn and I was in this kind of trade talk I would just call Joe and see if he would take Simmons, my two rookies and four future firsts for Dame:
