I agree. I don't care as long as we are the ones doing the fleecing

The moment you limit the conversation to ‘what the Heat can get back for Herro’ you’ve sort of resigned yourself to a variation on the Shit Sandwich, right.

Someone else already said it, but I'm also starting to believe that Miami is having difficulty in finding a taker with expirings for Herro, thus the hold up.

But there was already a report recently that we asked for "their best offer."

So clearly we don't think they have made their best offer.

Also, I don't think Joe wants to put out a specific list because I think he's hoping that other teams get in the mix. So if he sets the bar low, then the bar will remain low. It's like when you talk to someone from HR when you apply for a job and they ask "what are your salary expectations?" Whatever you tell them is going to be the bar, and possibly lower than that. So usually I reply with, "What is the pay range for this position?" and make them give me a number.

The /heat subreddit is losing their collective shit over this report. Meltdowns are hilarious.

Probably, but I do think Herro has value for some teams. Just not ours. So there is a chance he can bring back a nice hot pastrami sandwich instead.

Also, why would a competing team help Miami get Dame even if they kinda sorta want Herro?

I can totally see someone like Danny Ainge lowballing Riley when he comes asking for value for Herro.

yeah, it would have to be a team that does not think they are ready to contend for a couple of years.

It seems like there’s a lack of communication between the Heat and Blazers. It’s as if the telephone, email, texts, telegrams, Morse Code, smoke signals, drums, and tin cans with strings have not been invented and Riley and Cronin are left only with second rate sports journalists as a means of communication.

Haynes is so obnoxious. Dame/Goodwin/Miami should find a better press secretary.

The first trade including Miami is terrible for Brooklyn. They take on salary for a longer period and give up picks for worse players.... there's no way they remotely consider that.

I've always thought that Brooklyn made the most sense to trade Dame to, but I don't think the Nets will give up that much to get him. Certainly not what you propose in the second scenario

You seem to assign positive trade value to Simmons. I don't. I think getting Herro while taking on Robinson but getting rid of Simmons is a net gain for the Nets worthy of giving up one of their many FRPs.

I don't think that trade is terrible for Brooklyn at all..... in fact they should really send out TWO picks because they're dumping Simmons' massive contract.

    No.

I contend that Simmons = Herro in value. From a strict talent standpoint, Ben is a better/more impactful player -> but he has personality/health concerns to deal with. Both can give positive contributions to your team, but are overpaid for what they do. I can justify that the difference in value can be made up by 1 late first round pick.

Robinson is complete garbage, with a massive negative value. I put his value at -2 first round picks.

Then let's look at salary. Simmons is still owed $78M. Herro is owed $120M and Robinson an additional $48M.

Again - Nets take on 2x the salary and get worse players on the court.

I don't agree with this at all. I'm not a huge fan of Herro, but he's only 23 and he actually contributes. He's a decent player.

Simmons is a tangled wreck sitting in the middle of a u-pull-it yard. He might not ever get back to what he was. Some people have called his contract the worst in the NBA. If the Nets wanted to move Simmons, they would have to attach a pick with him just to get someone to take him on.

Herro might not have a ton of value, but he's worth a pick.

Simmons averaged less than 7 points per game last yr and missed half the season due to injury.

He also is not even cleared for 3 on 3 according to his GM from an injury he suffered almost 6 months ago.

Everything about Simmons actually playing and contributing is simply theoretical. (Except for his salary: he's owed nearly 80 mil over the next 2 seasons).

It's like if a $40 million yacht sunk.... and people keep saying "well if we raise that ship and we clean it up, it's worth $40 million!"

No.... it's not. IF you can raise that yacht, it's going to take substantial work to clean it up and get it running again. It probably will never be worth that $40 million price tag again. We'd be happy if it could eventually be worth $20 million.
