I don't understand the interest at all from the Blazers side. Do we really need a 31 year old center over 7 feet tall? We need more guards.
I doubt anyone here really has seen him play much in the last 3 years while he has been "the EuroLeague's all-time leader in blocks and has been voted to the All-EuroLeague First Team for three consecutive years". I know I haven't. I am not saying the leagues are anywhere close in comparison, but in these cases, we kind of have to rely on our scouts.
It's sad to think this guy is starting to look really good as a stop gap. A testament to how bad the market is for bigs.
I am not convinced he is that bad compared to other centers in the league. Not saying he is a top 25 center but he does look like a pretty good rim protector. Again I can't see how we can say one way or the other until he plays in the NBA
The Mar-a-Lago employee referenced in the superseding indictment adding major accusations against former President Donald Trump and a new co-defendant to the case has been identified by two people close to the investigation as Yuscil Taveras. barfo
Several seasons or 13 games over 2 seasons? (6 years ago) Doesn't seem like he played many minutes. Either way, bigs develop slower. Maybe he got better or maybe he still sucks. Hard to say
Why is anyone spending time thinking about this guy? He is not coming back to the NBA. He leveraged Portland to get a new deal in Europe
Because of this rumor 4 days ago 4 days ago – via Twitter highkin Sean Highkin: There is mutual interest between the Trail Blazers and 7-foot-3 Real Madrid center and three-time Spanish League Defensive Player of the Year Edy Tavares, but his contract buyout is a major hurdle. Story with details for subscribers: rosegardenreport.com/p/trail-blazers-interest-edy-tavares-complicated-international-buyout-rules
I don't buy it. Portland can only contribute ~$800k towards his $6.6M ($6M in Euros) buyout. He has a $4.4M ($4M in Euros) contract. Portland would have to pay him north of $10.2M just for him to break even. Paying Tavares that, would put Portland into the tax. Do you REALLY think Blazers would pay Tavares $10-12M so that they can be a 'tax team'? I don't.... It's not going to happen.
Hard to say what makes us a tax team until the Dame trade is done. Maybe we are a tax team regardless and maybe Tavares breaks even this year and makes it up next year. Either way, I was just answering your question about why we were spending time discussing him.
