Keon isn't a bankable future starter.

    There.

Now that we've settled that we have 'some' idea who on this roster is a 'bankable future starter', we can not shirk the responsibility of a fan message board of, you know, putting some probabilities on these prospects.

I can go first, if you want. I think Jovic has some long term starter upside as a top 15-25 range floor spacing slashing wing-type, a slightly bigger Jerami Grant. But I'm guessing he's more of a rotation player. His defense is wooof.

Jaquez I could see settling into a Josh Hart role at best—energy rotation player. I worry about his ability to defend at multiple positions, though; I worry he has some of the tweener issues that Watford did but at a different position. If he can defend I think he's a high end bench guy; I'm not sure he'll ever be a bankable starter though.

might be the case....but I do think you're overrating the chances it happens. I don't think it's anywhere close to inevitable. I also don't believe Miami has put all their assets on the table yet, and might not. My hunch is they might be under the impression, like you, that it's inevitable so why put up their best offer

I'd also imagine that the Blazer front office might believe as I do that Pat Riley has his fingerprints all over the scorched earth stance Dame's agent has advanced. And that Riley is behind a lot of these twitter 'leaks' about Portland being unreasonable...and the Blazer FO might be pissed off enough about it all to just say "to hell with Miami, we aren't trading Dame there"

My guess is that Dame won't be traded till the trade deadline.

i think so too. miami ain't that good as is, unless jovic play like mip and jaquez like roy. and if they do, we'd want them for dame. if they suck, how can we trade dame to them?
there will be other suitors for dame at the deadline.

If Jovic and Jacquez are not stars, they have to fit the positional and player needs of the Blazers.
I would say that is 1. the best backup center available. 2. point of attack defender with SF size, like Rayan Rupert, whom the Blazers already have.
Jovic and Jacquez are neither of these.
To me they would be virtually worthless additions.

Who cares? I don't. I just want wins.

When the Blazers drafted Scoot, Dame and his sycophants were the ones metaphorically booing. Fuck them.
Wins first, make everyone happy a distant 2nd.

But is the option open to him in realistic terms?

I had an option to buy a Ferrari, but I knew realistically I'd have to settle for a Ford.

The Blazers already have a Ferrari.

Why would they trade a Ferrari for a Ford right now when they've paid for 3 more years of the Ferrari?

Of course a "win now" player is a realistic option. How is it not?
We don't know the course the 2023-24 season will take.

Yep, most people forget how much can change between now and february. Inconceivable things can happen

    We don't.

But is it realistic regardless of knowing? That's the question.

Not what my analogy was pertaining to.

    Expectations.

    Correct me if wrong.
Your expectation is that it is certain that Dame will be traded.

    That is not my expectation.

Dame is not a piece of furniture taking up space that has to be unloaded.

He's one of the best scorers in the NBA.

I don't know what your question is.
Dame is worth a "win now" player such as Caleb Martin, who plays SF and shot 42% (on 3-pointers) in the playoffs last season.
I believe Cronin would take such a player, even with an expiring contract, if the rest of the pieces were acceptable.

Edit: Martin shot 42% on 3-pointers in the playoffs last season.

I was going to object to classifying an offense only player as a Ferrari until I remembered how stupidly Ferrari has run it's race strategy over the last 3 years and I am now willing to accept the analogy.

Of course, they do not have a RBR on the roster, but that's a story for another day

    Good post and i agree.

I don't think it's inevitable that Dame gets traded, I think it's more likely he doesn't at this point.

    Ah! GT40!

Nice choice and less common than a Ferrari.
