The AAC's media deal is around 7-8M/year per school; MWC's is about 4-5M/year. So probably 35-45% more. And Memphis, Temple, Tulane, Navy, Rice are comparable to the better MWC schools

but the geography is prohibitive and doesn't make sense. I think 9 of 14 teams are in the Atlantic time zone, and the closest are in Texas. It's close to 2000 miles from Corvallis to Tulsa, and it may be the closest venue

the MWC is about the only landing spot for OSU/WSU.

Just ridiculous that the PAC is dissolving when it’s teams are arguably at their best ever.

There is certainly some irony in the situation, but a big reason why the conference is so good this year is QB experience. I'm not sure the athletic departments in general are anywhere near being in their best position ever.

I said this in another thread but I think the PAC will be a bloodbath this year. Oregon/OSU/Washington/Utah/USC all look like top-10 and playoff teams. UCLA and Colorado are dangerous; Cal & WSU look much improved. There are no real gimmes on the schedules

obviously, this is mostly based off of a the PAC teams kicking around lower tier and FCS teams, but I would not be surprised if no PAC team this year had fewer than 2 conference losses, especially if all starting QB's stay healthy

1-8 against WSU in their last nine games ... might want to think again on that one!

Hopefully, the Ducks do a tribute for Mike Leach on Saturday.

The networks (ESPN & FOX) are calling the shots and they certainly aren't consulting us on what they should do. They don't care about history or rivalries, just ratings. If a school's games don't deliver the ratings for them to make max bank, they're being left outside looking in. I've heard/read stuff from those in the know that there will be more realignments coming in the next few years to kick other ratings loser schools out of the Big 10 and SEC as the networks hone towards their desired fall programing.

Like you, I think this all sucks. Also like you, I didn't watch Oregon's first game this year but that was mostly because it was against Portland State and I had much better options for my Saturday.

this was inevitable after Kliavkoff called for a board meeting on the 13th with all 12 schools participating

OSU/WSU are fighting for a 2-way split of any Pac-12 revenue starting in 2024 and are worried that if a full board meeting was held, there would be a addendum in by-laws preventing the 2-way split

USC/UCLA were excluded from any decision-making by the conference after they announced their departure. But reportedly, they simply didn't contest the exclusion though they might have had a case if they did. I'd imagine, the 8 departing schools wouldn't contest this time around; but if any did, that exposes the PAC to years of litigation. Which in turn would make it impossible for OSU/WSU to reverse merge with the MWC

I was told that a couple of departing schools (not Oregon), might file a legal challenge to the PAC-12's formula for distributing March Madness revenue, and that's the biggest pool of money that might go to OSU/WSU

if only it were that simple

but it's a pretty complex situation. OSU/WSU have done less that just about every other conference teams to generate revenue. For instance, at 340K dollars per MarchMadness appearances over the previous 6 seasons, OSU/WSU have combined for 4 (Ducks 6)....they have generated 1.36M. In just two seasons, 2022/2021, Pac-12 teams played 25 conference games and generated 8.5M. That's only for 2 seasons, if the other 4 'pool' seasons are similar, the pool could be around 25M

OSU/WSU are worried that the 10 other teams will vote to change the formula and disburse all that revenue at one time, like sometime next year. Thay are also worried that the other 10 schools would simply vote to disband the conference. The obstacle they are facing is that none of the 10 scools has left the conference yet. They are still all members. In fact, none of the schools can give formal legal notice of exiting the conference until Aug 1, 2024. A verbal statement of intent may not have any legal standing

there is also a dispute about Rose Bowl revenue. For example, if Oregon or Washington played in the Rose Bowl this year, what OSU/WSU want is to get 100% of the conference's share of the Rose Bowl money....and Oregon or Washington get nothing. That will be really hard to sell to a judge, and if OSU/WSU get aggressive about things like that, and lose their legal challenges, they might actually cause the other schools to disband the conference on Aug 1 next year

The buffs look really good. It’s so sad that the PAC couldn’t stick together. So many good teams this year. There are gonna be some insane matchups.

I'll be surprised if any PAC team finishes conference play with less than 2 losses
