Regardless of what Dame and Jaylen "agreed" to, you still have to get Boston to agree, and my guess is that 1) they weren't particularly interested in an Ant+3 packages; and 2) once the Boston supermax was likely on the table, Jaylen's supposed "agreement" with Dame wasn't quite so strong. There may plenty of reasons to question Cronin, but I'm not sure the "Cronin simply turned down a Jaylen Brown deal" passes the smell test.
no superteams on Jody's watch tear it down, scare Dame off, Vulcans are done spending money on the Blazers.
I heard rumors it was Brown for Ant and #3 and yes this led to the abrupt breakdown in the relationship. Supposedly Joe said all last season to Dame if you sit and help us tank we'll get a pick and trade it for you to get help. Totally can understand why Dame would be furious and want out as it would seem he was mislead. I still fault Dame more in all of this if it's true for his cryptic public comments and 1 team demand though.
Something really pissed Dame off enough to want out. It seemed all I heard from Dame and Joe last year were all on the same page. In my mind Joe failed, in not being able to back up what he said to Dame and fans what he was going to do. He probably tried to pull off something and couldn't make it happen , so it is easier to rebuild and buys Joe some job security.
and Coach Billups gets job security. Nice little setup, the pressure to win is turned off, while Blazer fans get draft fever.
But it totally misses the point. So what if Herro might currently be the best player on a rebuilding Blazers roster? The question is whether he is the right guy to look to be a pillar on the future rebuilt team. I think the answer is no. Herro is pretty much at his ceiling and he plays the same position as Shaedon. Scoot and Sharpe are just beginning to tap their potential. The Blazers need other quality players at positions of need or assets that can bring those players in the future. Tying up money and PT in Herro makes no sense.
I would flip Herro and Nurkic for Lively straight up for what it's worth. That dudes gonna be a stud.
Why? The western conference is going to be tougher than last season, and the Mavs didn't even make the playoffs last season.
I don't disagree with your post, agreed it makes no sense to have 4 guards here. I guess its more just sad that there could be a realistic argument Tyler Herro could be the best player on the Blazers without Dame. You put Herro on any other team in the NBA, even the crappy cellar dwellers and I never would imagine he could be argued as the best player.
Heat Depth Chart on ESPN; Starters Herro Richardson Butler Love Bam 2nd unit Lowry Robinson Martin Highsmith Bryant So were supposed to happily accept "young talent" for Dame in Jaquez and Jovic - whom are both 3rd string players?
Scoot, Sharpe, Grant are better than Herro. Ant is about the same. His absence wasn't missed in the playoffs. No one seems to be willing to trade for him.
Scoot has never played a game, he's not better - yet. Sharpe I'm obviously a huge fan of but he needs to improve a lot as well. I saw him in person for summer league, wasn't that impressive. Grant I guess it depends how you grade his defense/rebounding - that might be the best argument. I'm not saying whom has more trade value as obviously Scoot and Sharpe are way higher with way higher long term potential. Just sad this could be a realistic discussion of who is better today.
The Mavs traded DFS and got noticeably worse on defense, to the point they had to tank to draft Lively. Their problem clearly became defense, why are they taking on 3 years of Nurk and 4 years of Herro? Don’t get me wrong, you ABSOLUTELY have to do the trade if it’s available to us. Lively is going to be a life-changer on defense.
