Nothing to talk about. None of the talks materialized and probably nothing else to discuss until December. Local journalists need to prepare media day questions for Dame and Joe

I don't know Cronin's plan, but what I would hope he does is:
    1) get a great deal now or
    2) Wait until December 15th when many newly-signed free agents can be traded
    3) wait until January 15th when another batch of newly-signed free agents can be traded. That includes Jerami Grant and Matisse Thybulle.

I think more teams will be interested in making a trade after January 15th when they have an idea of where they stand compared to other teams.
I think there are too many unknowns right now, including the effect of the infusion of talent from the 2023 draft.

They'd be on rookie contracts and we'd have more assets compared to trading for them.

We've drafted two players in the last two years that are supposed to end up better than they are, and probably have to be. Don't know why we can't add similar pieces to the core the next couple of years. We brought in Schmitz for a reason.

Offered by Toronto, or requested by Portland? IMO, that seems like a deal the Blazers would jump on if Toronto offered it.

We should be able to get those picks from the Dame trade, shouldn't we?

Feels better than the perpetual tank...

I surmised it as a putative offer.

Just like Boston did. They did the opposite of tanking when Jaylen Brown was drafted in 2016 and Jayson Tatum was drafted in 2017.

Cheer for another team to tank while you win games.

Flipping OG may be the primary plan even if we trade Dame for him.

The flip doesn't have to be the exact day of the Dame trade. A few months later in the season is fine. See how the OG Ayton Scoot Sharpe experiment goes, and if the team is bad as we expect flip them plus Grant for picks.

If we get an unexpected surprise and the team is winning consider keeping it together, that seems unlikely though.

Gives players and fans something fun to start the season with, but the pragmatic strategists ultimately get their same long term assets.

You know, I saw the writing on the wall much sooner than most here with Dame wanting out. I, and a few others posited to send Dame to a contender and start the rebuild using the mantra "we brought Schmitz in for a reason." We all know you are hard core pro Dame everything along with other posters here. That is fine. But please don't be disingenuous invoking Schmitz's name now to not absorb talented players we can get in a Dame deal. You could not care less if Schmitz was doing his job if it meant Dame stayed in Portland. Now you want Schmitz to do his thing in the face of Portland drafting Sharpe/Scoot and being in the running for Ayton/OG? Come on, maybe you want two more years of lottery so you can say "see, I told you so, should of kept Dame." I'm fine with taking talent when the price is right.

I'm not a fan of a "perpetual" tank. I'm a fan of focusing on development of Scoot, Sharpe, and Simons. Let those guys have the bulk of the responsibility on both sides of the ball next year and challenge them. Even if the plan isn't to keep Simons, if he takes another step then it'll only increase his trade value at the deadline. Sharpe shined with more offensive responsibility last year. Bring in OG and it's likely the Blazers decide to bring him off the bench. I'm not a fan of that.

I don't want Portland to rely on picks from a Dame trade to build a contender. I like the idea of trying to build one before 2027, by the time the Blazers receive future unprotected picks from Toronto or Miami. I have more confidence Miami will struggle between 2027-2030 because Jimmy is even older than Dame is and they'd have no young core left. Also, Riley could be gone by then. Maybe they're in the 20s, or maybe their top 5. If you have a contending level roster that's still in the mid-20's AND top 5 picks, that sounds like the recipe for a juggernaut and the only way Portland could ever get a "superteam". But if they build the right way, they would be fine if those picks are lower because that's where your more likely to find role players to fill out the backend of a rotation.

Huh? I wanted to build around Dame. That's obviously not going to happen, so now I'm embracing the idea of a rebuild. Teams shouldn't approach building around a superstar in their 30s and 19 & 20 year olds the same exact way.

I think OG would have more value now when a team could bring him in for a full season and would have longer to sell him on staying and evaluate his fit.
